Do you know picadillo?

Germany
June 11, 2020 4:54am CST
Hello Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening to all dear mylotters I woke up in a fine good weather It rained here in the morning for a while but still the sun didn`t come out. We still have cloudy sky and cool air here. It looks like it`s going to rain again later in the afternoon. Now, I`m thinking to prepare a food I learned from my mother when I was young. She calls it Picadillo a very simple food to cook. Ingredients is only ground beef, garlic, onions, green olives, chopped potatoes, bell pepper, little salt and powdered pepper just have it fried together and put little water. How about you my dear mylotters? Do you know picadillo? I hope you can share with me here Have a great day and Happy mylotting Photo: google

I have never heard it called that before. I understand it is a Cuban dish. We cook something similar there are so many variations with different ingredients used according to whoever is cooking it. What ever variation you make I am sure it will be nutritious and tasty! Enjoy!

Photo is not mine. Credit to owner
Yes, I know Picadillo. But my Picadillo is not dry, its actually more of a soup. Like the one in the photo. For some reasons, I don't like it much so I seldom cook it. May be yours is a different version. I think there are some who makes it dry or saucy.

This is more or less what we used to be served at school for supper. We called it just "Mince". It was actually quite tasty and, no doubt, quite a cheap way of feeding 140 boys! It didn't have the 'extras' of olives and bell peppers and chopped potatoes (it was usually served with boiled potatoes and cabbage cooked separately). What you describe as 'picadillo' is a Cuban dish usually served with rice, As well as your ingredients, it should contain raisins, No doubt it depends a great deal on who makes it and what is to hand at the time but some versions contain chili pepper and cumin and tinned tomatoes as well.

I read it as armadillo. I was thinking like..."what?! she cooked armadillo?" So I read it again. Looks yummy! I will veganize this recipe by using firmed tofu instead of beef. Unfortunately, tofu is not common in the place where I am currently situated.
