Our Local Thrift Shop Won't Be Opening

It's sad news to see that our local thrift shop has become a victim of the economy and of Covid 19.
They posted a sign in the window that they won't be reopening and then the notice was all over our local Facebook page.
This little thrift store did a good business and the proceeds were donated. It's going to be sad not only to see it permanently closed but I'm sure the donated money will be missed. (I can't remember who they donated the money to but it was a local charity).
I always felt good dropping off stuff as I knew it would be bought by someone who wanted the items and the money would go to a good cause.
We've been hearing so much about how small businesses are struggling after being shut down due to pandemic but this hits very close to home.
I guess the box I have in my garage that I was going to donate will go to the thrift store that is about a half hour drive away.

I hate that. It’s one of the things that infuriates me so much about this: people are being hurt, seeing their dreams crushed, and the “experts” who told us 15 days would stop the spread that turned into three months (and counting for some states) haven’t been right about anything.

Small business is getting hurt badly it seems and I have to agree....who would have thought that we'd be dealing with this 3 months later. I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg and we're going to hear more and more as time goes on,

It's sad that this is happening. I have been trying to support smaller businesses when I can. I know of one business in our community that finally went digital and has been able to thrive that way, but not everyone can do that.

@Marilynda1225 It breaks my heart, because I believe they are more deserving of our patronage than the corporations who will stay afloat.

@Marilynda1225 I hope so, it seems like some stores and restaurants are going to be lost forever.

Drop offs probably wouldn't be a problem here either but I guess they rely on people coming in and buying. Guess it's not the type of business that be online for shopping or curbside pickup.
But the good news is....our library opened for curbside pickup. yay!!

@DianneN I won't do curbside at the library either even though they say they've sanitized the books.
I already got Valeries newest book and also have her older book Scarred downloaded

@Marilynda1225 My husband said that they are now opened. Silly me! I don't go out, so what do I know???
I can't bring myself to go to our library, which has curbside pickup and drop off. I still have a good supply of books to read and want to order Valerie's books along with some others from Amazon.

Some of our small businesses here have survived so far but it's only a matter of time to see if they continue to survive. Our local salon (where I get my hair done) is still closed but they say they will reopen.

I have not stepped into a thrift shop since early March . . . so unheard of as I love thrift shops . . . but of course they had been closed all this time. I'm not even sure of the status right now . . . but I do have bags and bags of stuff that need to be donated. Sorry to hear your local one closed down . . . oh gosh so many businesses big and small have had to close down .

It's really sad since thrift shops are great for donating as well as finding bargains.

This is a small one but it does a good steady business. Every time I drop something off to be donated they seemed busy. Maybe they'll find a way to reopen eventually

Many places shut down here, since we are now back open, everywhere is hiring

So far, I have not seen any of our local mom & pop businesses shut down permanently, but that doesn't mean it's not happening. I just haven't seen any evidence of it yet. On a very interesting note, though, I have seen two well-known national restaurants here close down, and local mom & pop restaurants have taken over their buildings and are holding grand openings in the next week or two.
Sadly, I think nationwide we're going to see a lot of small businesses close down permanently. I wish there was more we could do to help.
