How did the American dream became American greed?

India
July 11, 2020 4:22am CST
When I was growing up I used to watch several cartoons which were made in America. Those were very high quality artistic work. Everyone considered the people in far west United States of America to be rich. It was considered that the government was fair. When American president Bill Clinton visited India he came to my state and it was a mood of celebration. The American made cars such as Ford and General Motors were considered to be of the highest quality. Even soft drink companies such as Coca Cola were considered to make high quality products. When a new McDonald would open near by the children would get into a mood of excitement. Later on when I grew up the picture started to become ugly. The soda company that we considered would make high quality product lost its value when it came here. Soon reports started coming from USA that hamburgers were making children fat. The cartoon that we used to watch had mind programming content. One of the president George Bush attacked a country in middle east just to gain grounds. Several people in other parts of Vietnam were killed for no reason. The banking crash of Lehman Brothers added more fuel to the trauma. Do you have the answer for the above question?

It's sad what people will do to get ahead. Greed is the great motivator.

@just4him small business have to build plans which could work in these times. There is a lot that happens in the market. In changing they would have to adapt or go extinct.

There were times when people would start a business and make it big. Now those business are being taken over by ceos. That is not liked by the people. There are monopolies built up. Where does the small go?

Well yes, we can develop a rosy picture about something in our heads. But when we get closer the other side of the coin is revealed.

It is very sad what some people will do for money. I'm afraid the whole world is guilty of this in some way or other. Not just Americans.

There were times when the currency was stable hence everyone was able to earn well and live a good life. That might be the reason people were able to produce high quality of work.

At times, Greed and lust for power makes the Top Leaders take decisions that percolate down and cause long term troubles. People are happy on getting short term gains. They forget that honesty and truth make for long lasting and sustainable practices and results. Falsehood, manipulation can make many rich and may make them think that things would always be rosier, yet that does not lasts. Nor does borrowed time and money.... Hard lessons for individuals... Hard lessons for countries....

I have no answer for the politics ... but I do know that most people are so busy just trying to survive - pay the most basic bills, that they don't have much time or energy to question anything

It takes a while for things to show their ugly color and skeletons to come out of cupboard. But still I would say that US is a great country. I have lived there for 10 long years. A few might be wrong, greedy and drunk on power. But majority are hard working and law abiding. And their social structure and security is what makes them a great society and economic power And every country has it's own cons and so does America.
