Humorous signs can get the message across really well

I’ve just read a discussion by Four Walls (@FourWalls) about a humorous sign she saw on her recent jaunt into the wilderness. You can catch up here: https://www.mylot.com/post/3384909/sooo-what-did-i-learn-this-trip. She mentioned that humour can instruct equally as well as a more serious approach. I was reminded of this with some signs we saw in a town in Ireland. They were pushing the fact that people should pick up after their dogs. There were doggy poop bags available in dispensers and this series of signs were prominently displayed. Do you think they would attract your attention?

I love those humorous signs because those people who are hit will not be offended.

Yes, that's true. Comedians can be very rude but because they make people laugh they get away with it.

@JudyEv we do those funny signs in the office when I was the general manager of a Japanese software house. One sign I remember - if you come in late then you will not be allowed to speak in English. Take note, it was a Japanese company. Wakarimasen (I do not know), waheehee.

@paigea No, we don't. It's a bit like grandchildren. Much easier to admire and have intermittent interaction with other people's. lol

I like funny visuals - that always catches my eye! Everyone sees the serious ones and end up overlooking them eventually. People DO need to remember to pick up after their dogs!

Thanks for the mention! I think the cute/funny ones get more positive reactions than the “do it or we’ll fine you!” bossy things. Love the one written to the dog to train its owner!

These signs would definitely catch my attention! I like when people take a humorous approach to signs. With so many around, it is almost necessary to find a flash way of capturing people's attention. I have a sign hanging on the fence in the back pump room at one of the swimming pools I manage, positioned next to the electrical equipment. It says, "Danger, not only will this kill you, but it will hurt the whole time you're dying."

Humorous signs impart a message, without people feeling that they're being lectured. I like your example. There is one you see sometimes 'all water in this pool has been passed by the management'.

They must have a lot of trouble with people not picking up after their dogs - or perhaps they just got carried away with their signs.

@JudyEv My granny always took a bucket and shovel In the car on holiday in case she came across some ‘horse’. She scooped it up and took it home for her tomatoes.

@xFiacre I can go along with this but can't imagine storing it up all holidays. On the farm, we were forever carting horse or cow manure up to the garden. We'd also put a cow pat in a bucket and fill it with water. After a day or three, Mum would have liquid manure to add to her plants.
