Sheep use body language too

I commented on Brigitte Gonzales (@bbghitte) discussion, https://www.mylot.com/post/3385400/she-enjoys-it . I said that some people, and some animals, don’t like having their photo taken. Several myLotters have said that their pets don’t like a camera pointing at them.
For the last decade or so, our pets were sheep, mostly rescue ones. Most didn’t mind having their photos taken but you can see by the body language of the one on the right of my photo, that she is not happy. I think she also thought that being subjected to a collar and rope round her neck was very demeaning. Her name was Baasil. I thought she was a wether when she first came to live with us, hence the reason for a masculine-sounding name.
The other one was called Monty and was with us for a very long time. He was quite keen on posing for the camera.

I wonder why certain animals turn away when people point cameras at them? When I had cats, they would always look away as soon as I pulled out my camera or phone. What is it about the gadgets that make them want to look away? They don't have the intellectual capacity to know that they are getting their picture taken, so what difference does it make to them?

@JudyEv I tried an experiment once with my cats many years back. Any time I would pick up the camera to take a picture, they would look away or get up and move. So I tried picking up other objects and pretending to use them like I would my camera. In all instances, they would sit there posing just as pretty as can be. I'd then pick up the camera, and *bam* they look away or get up and move. Somehow, they know when they're getting their pictures taken. But you are right, animals in the wild don't seem mind cameras. It sure is baffling!

@moffittjc I wonder what it is that makes them uncooperative. I know some people used to think the cameras 'stole their soul' if they allowed someone to take their photo. The aboriginals used to and we met a man in Ireland who believed it too - or at least said he did.

@nela13 No, I actually meant animals watching TV. I've seen clips of a cat watching a horror movie and its head moves back and forth watching the action, its eyes grow wider and finally it takes off! Here's the link. I hope you have time to watch. It's very funny.

Indeed, animals too can have their own choices and preferences! At times, it is very much visible but not so apparent sometimes.

Being human, I do not like photo to be taken so as some of our dogs too. Whenever I shift my camera towards them, they always turn away or bark at me

Those were beautiful sheep! I take it you don't have them anymore? My cat seems to have gotten used to the camera pointed at her. She doesn't exactly pose, she goes about her business without shying away though. I hate to have my picture taken. Funny thing when I was in my 20s it didn't bother me lol.

@JudyEv If I need to take a selfie, I do it in a dark room LOL. My daughter always takes a lot of pictures when we get together. I hate it. Then she posts our pictures on Facebook, and I don't want anyone to know that's me. But she insists! My daughter in law will not have her picture taken. And she's still young and so pretty! She turns her head, puts her hair over her face, anything she can do to disguise herself, haha.

@CinnamonGrl We'll all different. Vince asks now before he puts up my photo of FB. Sometimes I can look really sour and I hate that. :(

Seems Monty enjoys the spotlight, lol. Baasil is definitely camera shy like a celebrity avoiding the paparazzi!

Maybe these animals will feel disturbed or threatened when photographed, especially if you use camera light
