In the picture is the Salak palm that is 3 years old. It is small because it is only in the plastic pot although now I have transplanted it to the ground. The salak is also called snake fruit because the skin is like the scales of snake. It is sweet and nice to eat. But it is only available in Indonesia so I brought home some seeds and planted it here.
I'm sure @sophie09 would be delighted to see my Salak.

I hope it grows faster now that it is already on the ground.

@Alexandoy I've heard that palm trees grow slow but yours seems to have grown quite a bit in 3 years.

It would have been taller if it was originally planted on the ground.

How big will that palm get now that you have planted it in the ground?

It is not like the coconut that is so high. Maybe just 2 meters high.

@moffittjc the fruit is similar to brazil nut, dark brown like scales of snake. The fruit inside is white.

@sophie09 yes, if it remains in the pot it will just grow old and probably die when the roots cannot regenerate anymore.

I don't think it will be a good shade because the fronds have thorns. It can harm people.

We have salak too and we also say salak. But your salak wont bear fruit if it alone because it is female, you need a male tree

That is what they say. I have 4 plants before but I lost the 3 when I planted it in the vacant lot... the owner removed it.

What happens if you didn't transplant it? Is it still going to remain small?

@cherriefic the plant sellers have the potted plants so it is portable. They cannot sell the plant that is planted on the ground, waheehee.
