A Wet Start To The Day

Ok, it's not as bad as the above picture but it feels that way. I just woke up to water pouring out of our hot water heater. The hall is flooded as well as closets and it's almost reached the kitchen.
I woke my brother up, and he turned the water to the hot water heater off, and we just used all the towels we have to try and get up as much water as we can but it hasn't helped much.
Now we are waiting for maintenance to get here. He called and is 30 minutes away. All the excitement has made my brother's chest hurt, so he is lying down in his bed until someone gets here.
What a way to start a Friday morning. How's your day so far?

It took maintenance about 30 minutes to get to us as the guy didn't live on property. By that time we had used every single towel and dish towel we had and were able to get all the water up. This happened around 4:30am and it wasn't completed until almost 11am.

Yikes!! not a good way to start your day and hope the maintenance guy showed up quickly. I've had that happen in my other house but thankfully the hot water heater was in the basement. Still a pain but at least it didn't ruin anything.

I had that happen to me in an apartment I lived in about 20 years ago. I was on the second floor. I awoke to a banging at my door, and it was the downstairs neighbor alerting me to the fact that her apartment was flooded due to my broken water heater. Of course, my apartment was flooded as well, but it was worse for her because it did serious damage to her walls and ceiling. It took a long time for them to repair all the damage in her apartment.

@moffittjc I can see how that would be a problem. I wonder how someone would know if water got inside a wall or not unless mold started popping up.

@simone10 Water in conscious places is easy to clean up, that is usually not the issue. The issue is the water that gets inside the walls and up in the ceiling. It becomes a dangerous potential to create mold, especially if there isn't an easy way to get to the water to remove/dry it out.

Sounds like you need a new hot water heater. I'm glad ours is down the basement. What a mess! I hope your brother feels better. My day is OK. Hope things improve for you.

Yes, we did get a new water heater. It's a lot bigger one too. It wasn't until almost 11am before they were completely finished. My brother felt better afterwards. He has a heart condition and when he over exerts or gets scared or anxious, it causes his chest to hurt.

@cherriefic I am very thankful for that. My brother was able to turn the water off to the water heater or it could have been a lot worse.

It really was an awful thing to wake up to, especially when you are still half asleep. We were lucky and were able to get all the water up, but we did have to use all of our towels and dish towels. We spent the rest of the day washing all of those towels. They did install a new water heater and it's a lot bigger than the original one.

That isn't a great way to start your day off.
Hopefully they will arrive soon to vacuum up the excess water and put some big industrial fans down to dry everything.
My morning is going well, I was up early today and enjoyed reading some posts here on the site.

Hopefully they have some wet vacs to help dry everything back out. Not a good start.
