Have you ever had a grasshopper pie?

No insects were harmed in the production of this dessert. There's probably a legit pie with this name, but I just made it up (name and pie), so this will be my version of a grasshopper pie. I made a crust from pecan flour (finely crushed pecans) and butter and brown sugar. Baked that about 11 minutes and let it cool. Then I made a package of Jello instant pistachio pudding, let it get firm in the fridge and later mixed it with Cool Whip. Let it sit in the freezer until firm again. I guess you could sprinkle some of the crushed pecans on top if you wanted to. I just tried a slice and it was divine. Do you make up food stuff? I love to get creative, but sometimes that doesn't turn out to be a great idea. However, this pie is yummy. Maybe you can create something delicious this weekend and share the adventure with us? Or misadventure maybe.

Ohhh - that sounds good! I have not had pistachio pudding in years ! I am thinking I had grasshopper pie - not sure - but someone made a green pie for my friend's party and it may have been minty - not sure what was in it except that I remember it was green and had chocolate on it. I'm a cook that uses recipes . . . I'm mostly not creative on my own when it comes to dishes .

@1creekgirl I might get creative with food, but it doesn't mean that it's edible .

Your grasshopper pie sounds delicious! Way to get creative! By the way, I have eaten a chocolate covered grasshopper before. Not bad at all! lol

@1creekgirl I don't know if I've ever eaten raccoon before. My dad was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, so we always ate wild game as a family. And I love going to our local Rotary Club's wild game feast every year, as they really do a great job of cooking up some good food. I know I've had rattlesnake, rabbit, squirrel, bobcat, deer, wild hog, duck, pheasant, wild turkey and more before.

@1creekgirl Yes, I go every year. We got lucky this year, the feast was on March 5th, and we went into the COVID lockdown a week later.

I have never had a Grasshopper Pie (nor have I ever had a Grasshopper Cocktail). Your version sounds quite tasty, though I'd be scared of all the chemicals and artificial stuff they put in Jello Instant Pistachio Pudding and in Cool Whip (did you ever read the ingredients list of those things?) There is such a thing as Grasshopper Pie. It's named after a minty cocktail called the Grasshopper (presumably because it's green and will have you hopping around in no time!). It was probably invented by Betty Crocker and it seems quite boozy but the combination of mint and chocolate always works well.
With a crunchy chocolate cookie crust and a minty mousse filling, this is a treat any mint-chocolate lover will want to eat. Inspired by the classic after-dinner drink, this recipe features the creme de menthe and creme de cacao of a Grasshopper Cocktail,

@1creekgirl If you want to recreate your Grasshopper Pie with real ingredients and no artificial additives, this might be a place to start.
Unbelievably delicious homemade pistachio pudding. You just can't get enough!

I love chocolate and mint together, too. I make chocolate mint squares at Christmas that's a very rich brownie with a butter cream topping and then a think bittersweet chocolate glaze. And you're right about those ingredients in Cool Whip and Jello....good thing we don't eat them very often.

I made it once and it was a very intricate recipe.
I always say I’m not a chocolate person but the fact is… of course I am. Who am I kidding. Chocolate is great. Chocolate AND Mint is fantastic. So I’m not sure why I was hesitant …

@1creekgirl I've never been good at baking a crust so thank you for the recipe for it. It seems easy enough. My problem has always been kneading it too much. That's why I can't make homemade biscuits. They come out tough.

I thought about using chocolate pudding! The crust is very easy to make. I think it was one cup of pecan flour, 3 Tbls melted butter, and 3 or 4 Tbls brown sugar. Mix well, pat into a pie plate, bake at 350 for about 10 minutes. Let it cool before filling it.

This name is so weird to me. English is not my native language and I may make a mistake. Is this pie related to grasshopper? Or are they made from grasshopper? If not, why it has such an interesting name? I may be worried to order it if I see it in the menu
