I am sure most of us do this simple protocol before buying canned goods or any other products in the supermarket. We cannot afford to be poisoned and die because of eating goods that were expired. Some supermarkets intend not to remove them and be bought by the consumers. Why do some people think that it is fine to eat them even if they are expired? Image Credit: encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com

I'm very poor in this but nowadays I try to make sure I check the dates. It can be dangerous when they are expired.

I usually look at it when l buy food items and most especially when I am buying those items that are on sale, they usually are sold at bargain prices when they are near expiration dates. As far as I know items that has just passed its date is still edible but of course you should always take precaution on consuming it since if it would be risky already and you cannot ran after the manufacturer if you have any problems encountered consuming it.

I agree. It is one of the strategies of businessmen to go in for sales of his items. As you had described, the items might be near to their expiry dates. I remembered that I bought a loaf of bread. I was wondering why it is cheaper than before and checked the expiry date and it is 3 days left to be expired.

@Shavkat If that would be the case for as long as the bread does not taste or smell bad it is still good to consume. I am just not that keen on applying that on medicines since they are most likely not good to take anymore.

I always check the date on everything, not just canned goods. I also make it a point to consume it before it reaches said date because if you don't, not only did you just waste money, you also didn't get to enjoy it!

Its depends on where I buy those things if, in the market, I have to, but in supermarket, I don't have to worry since they have quality control

No, I won't check it since I know they won't be out of valid date. However, if something that can go bad in a short time, such as the food, then I will check it since I shall know whether I can finish it before it is out of expiration.

I do check expiration dates, but some dates are "best by" which means it tastes best by that date, but it doesn't mean it's dangerous by then to eat.

I agree. If we were in other country and the goods are in their language, we can ask when it is the expiry date of it.
