While searching through local news stations over the weekend I came across a news item. It really shocked me, to say the very least.
According to the news item, the US Food and Drug Administration has issued an order to recall seventy five different brands of hand sanitizer.
The various brands have methanol in the hand sanitizer, which has resulted (per an article by NBC news) in ten deaths and numerous hospitalizations.
What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here????? (To quote Slim Pickens in Blazing Saddles)
We've had people hoarding it, then price gouging. Now we have companies substituting methanol for ethyl alcohol (the latter of which is fine for sanitizer; and, in fact, has been the alcohol used in hand sanitizers since long before the pandemic) and in the process, causing illness and death!
Instead of carrying the list of "don't use these" sanitizers around, my philosophy (and my advice to you) is use name brand sanitizer. I have Germ-X and Suave brands, and they've been around since before this began.
Meanwhile, just shake your head and wonder what's next.....
The list, from the FDA:

If the virus won't do it, hand sanitizer will.

If it's not one thing, it's another. I wonder if methanol is cheaper or easier to come by. Sigh. I have my one bottle of Germ-X; so I'm OK. Thanks for the post.
