How can people assess whether a product is worth buying?

I have this concern when buying online. I read some articles that some companies pay people to give numerous good feedbacks about their products online. It is obvious that customers will check on these things and eventually, they will buy them without knowing the real facts about them. How can we know if the products online are good quality or not? I always check the reviews at the last. They are usually the ones with low rating giving and give out true facts

Sometimes I prefer to go straight to the mall and check out the items personally. Now, I am not sure if I can do this.

I agree. We can go for the signature brands and have reliable retailers. I do like e-bay. Most of the items are legit.

I heard about this too.. but without using and trying the product how can anyone write good feedback.. such rating and good reviews can mislead any buyers

I must admit that some items online are cheaper than buying them in malls. The last thing that runs into my mind is to check these items physically in malls. Of course, we need to check the prices. Once we had done a little research, we can buy it.

@Shavkat, yes, I too notice this difference.. but decision of buying online needs to check lots of reviews .. however it is better to consume time sitting and checking rather than going to mall physically

We also do this. What if the persons who gave the feedback were being paid by the company?

Yes, you're absolutely right. Reviews are not very reliable anymore. What I usually do is, I go through the customer question section where we can find the discussions of real buyers. You might get a fair idea about the real worth of the product from there.

It is nice that you pointed this out. It is also a good option to know the real facts about the items through their actual conversations between the seller and buyer.

@Shavkat Yes... And I might also check the other not so popular sites for reviews about the product.

That is a risk you have to take from buying online items. I do rely on the reviews but I know that some of them are not true and suspect them as being scripted to make the items attractive. So sometimes when I am really interested to the item, I would check reviews on youtube and other sites to be very sure if they can be relied on.

You said it right. We can research with other means as you had mentioned. I also think that it is the most reliable source of information.

Most of the time I trust my past experience. I normally don't read the reviews as I know they could be made up as you rightly pointed out. Most of the times it is luck factor.

I hope this luck is right. What if it is not? Well, the course of action is to send back and be replaces in good condition.

The buyer's rate is always the best basis. But buying online is also a risk. Although I do it all the time even I get disappointed sometimes.

On Amazon, I believe you can't leave a review unless you bought the product. If that is the case, what would be the point of someone leaving a dishonest review? Also, a product can have good reviews and bad reviews. Doesn't mean the product is bad. You just have to take a chance and get it and if it is not good then return it back. Unless, most of the reviews are bad ones. In that case, perhaps it is best to not buy it.

I try to ask people I know who are knowledgeable, but it's hit or miss sometimes.

I got an idea from you. Perhaps we can ask somebody or someone who had purchased a particular item that we want.

Read the reviews . Particularly the ones with photos and videos. You will get a fair idea about the product. if the rating is 4 or 5 means the product is good. Consider the most recent rating and user comment. Check the rating of the product in various online shopping and review portals. Check with your friend who are already using the product and ask for their opinion.

You are right. We need to check further. It is ideal if the customer sens some photos of the products' defects.

When I learned this concern, I am a bit skeptical before buying something. We really need to spend time in checking out the customers' reviews.

If some reviews sounds fishy, I generally ignore them. I heard that companies pay for writing reviews but where does that happens.
