Daddy Long-Legs

I am one who hates spiders with a passion. Especially the big black hairy looking ones and the little jumping ones. It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.
Yesterday I remembered that it's not all spiders that I hate. I don't hate what we always called Daddy Long-Legs. I remember playing with these spiders as a child. They were always so gentle. If I happen to see one of these spiders inside, I always capture it and put it back outside.
I remember someone telling me once that the Daddy Long-Legs was very poisonous and that it's mouth is too small so it couldn't bite a human. I just read online that they aren't poisonous to humans at all. That is an urban myth.

I always heard that their mouth was too small to bite humans or it would be toxic. Glad that is a myth. I did not mind them when I was young. I do not see them now, as someone else said. I get creeped out by wolf spiders, outside, because they get big and they jump.

I have had them walk over my legs and not minded but when they get to be annoying its hard to persuade them to go outside.

I think myself that they get lazy and canĀ“t be bothered about where they are too much.

@lovinangelsinstead21 They do seem to be lazy spiders, don't they?

I think that there used to be more Daddy Long Legs spiders years ago then there are now, I cannot remember the last time that I saw one.
I couldn't imagine them being poisonous, they were everywhere and I don't recall anyone ever having a reaction.

I think you are right about there not being as many. What I heard was that they were poisonous but not to humans because their mouths were too small to bite us. I found out that was wrong. They are not poisonous to humans at all, only insects.

I can understand completely. Any other kind of spider will freak me out too. A few years ago at another place we lived, there must have been a couple in the air duct above my desk. Several mornings in a row, a tiny spider would appear in front of my face. I would get a tissue and take care of it, then another one appeared the next morning. After the second one, I moved my desk.

I used to play with Daddy Long Legs too as a kid. We had lots of them in our garage. They were fun because they were so gentle.

@moffittjc Yes it was ticklish. After we played with them, we would let them gently back in the grass.

Doesn't matter what spider it is or how small it is I am still freaked out. Of course, I am more freaked out by the bigger-sized ones.

@lovebuglena I've had that happen before and it was a tiny one, so I wasn't as scared but I did watch it closely the whole time I took a shower.

@simone10 One time I was in the shower and I saw a spider crawling on the wall. I freaked out big time.

Years ago, I got a spider bite on my cheek. The side of my face puffed up like a balloon. I had to keep taking ibuprofen. The only thing I could think of is that the spider bit me in my sleep.

@Spontaneo No, but it can damage the tissue surrounding the bite.

Its beautiful capture as I also hate spiders but try to keep myself away from it. In my childhood, many times picked it up but not now haha.

@DocAndersen Awww, the poor thing. I wish I could offer some kind of advice to help but I haven't found anything that has helped me. I'm not terrified but I am scared.
