Deep Dark Forest

I never know what critter I will see in my yard any time of day. This morning I saw this beautiful deer drinking out of our birdbath. Her two babies were too tiny to reach it. When I opened the door very quietly, the babies scattered back into the deep, dark, forest, followed by mom. We have a very low and shallow birdbath in the rock garden. I just filled it with water. The little ones can take a drink tomorrow to wash down all my flowers they eat.

That's beautiful that you have deer visit you in your yard, although you probably don't like that they eat your flowers and such. But I always think it's a sign of a health forest ecosystem when you see deer and other wild animals in abundance.

@DianneN That would be nice if you could ever do that! But yes, 2 acres is a lot of property to fence.

@moffittjc I wish. We'd need a 12 foot fence to keep the deer from jumping over. Oh, the gardens I could have.........

Oh, that woods is brimming with a very healthy ecosystem. There is nothing we can do but fence in our yard. It isn't cheap enclosing over 2 acres, but I wood love iron gates at the foot of our driveway and a guard. lol

Nice that I see trees are green again in your place. When I was there it was springtime and most of the trees does not have green leaves on them. I was however able to see the last phase of Springtime where the trees started to sprout new leaves again but they are not as green as that in the picture.

Thank you! Once spring is over, the leaves are out until Autumn when they change to beautiful colors then fall off the trees. The trees remain bare all winter until spring. I love spring the most.

@DianneN Yeah looks like I came there at the right season. We do not have that seasons in my place. Only summer and rainy season in here. That is why seeing Spring and witnessing that last part of winter was really an exciting experience I had in your place.

Thanks. I lucked out getting my camera while the mother was drinking from the birdbath. When I opened my door and then the screen door, they took off. Mom stopped to glance back at me before she sauntered into the woods.

@DianneN We have deer here too which wander through our yards. Most people have to almost put their gardens in a fenced jail to keep them from eating everything.

@Marilynda1225 That's the problem with living so close to Nature. They don't eat marigolds or nasturtium. That's it!
