No change given

I thought you might like to hear about an experience with a public toilet in Co. Cork, Ireland.
The toilet was the most up-to-date contrivance we'd ever seen. Once you left the toilet it sealed itself shut then the whole thing was automatically washed, deodorised, sanitised and pasteurised and probably a few other things as well.
But what made Vince crack up (no pun intended!) was the meter outside where you had to put your money before the door would open to let you in. The sign said it cost 25p to use the facility. The slots were labelled 50p and 20p. There was no way to actually put 25p into the machine. And another sign said that no change was given. Canny folk the Irish!
Photo is of a sign in an Australian toilet encouraging people to sit ON the seat, rather than standing on it.

@JudyEv What if someone left the door partially open for a family member.

That's funny. Also, your signs. I hadn't realized standing on the toilet seat was such a problem..

@snowy22315 We found quite a lot through France too. They're not easy to use when you're getting older and have a bit of difficulty getting up from them.

I'm sure that was quite an experience using that toilet. I like the idea that it sanitizes itself when you're done but I guess it's pretty funny and confusing when you don't know how much money you need to use the facilities.

@JudyEv That's a scam, because they know people have to use the bathroom!

@JudyEv LOL!
That would be terrible if it starts washing while one is still sitting on it.

It is indeed. They would get at least 40p from each visit.

LOL, that's kind of funny about the money. I guess they have it figured out, all right.
Love the picture. Are there a lot of toilet standers there?

I love that idea of the self cleaning toilet , would happily pay that 40 or 50 p that it must have actually cost to use it. But they should label it as such then.
Love that sign. Never have felt the urge to stand on the toilet... but there must be a reason for the sign. SOme people lol.

@JudyEv Oooo that makes sense. Seeing as my knees are not what they used to be, I'm thankful for not using a squat toilet there lol

The sign is in an Australian toilet. I have a photo of a 'two-holer' in an Irish castle but I can't find it.

If people are used to a squat toilet, perhaps they aren't really sure how to use a Western type.

Boy, what a moneymaker. I do like the fact that the toilet seat gets sanitized.
