Thank you to those who have checked in on me. Our town of 10,000 people had over 9,000 without power from a hurricane last Tuesday. We were notified that our power was restored at 4:23AM today.
Thanks to our younger son for urging us to leave our house hastily before the hurricane arrived here to stay at his beach house in Truro, Cape Cod. Our street is heavily wooded and always is one of the first to lose power.
He sent a photo of the road to our house blocked off by a tree and downed wires from the 70 - 100 mile an hour winds. He later discovered more trees and wires down on our street as well as our neighbor’s tree blocking the road and resting on our front lawn.
Our son had just come out of a shower when his lights went off, but his generator kicked on 15 seconds later. He was lucky that he was only without power for 22 hours. His power lines are all underground and once the main transformer was repaired, he was good to go.
We enjoyed our time at his beautiful beach house and make a vacation out of it. We had beautiful weather, went swimming every day, and stuffed ourselves with seafood. He didn’t have WIFI or internet there, and our phones were iffy.
Anyway, it’s good to be home, finally! I have lots of chores to do and want to help hubs pick up branches, twigs, and leaves from our lawn. I will pop on and off as I can today. I just wanted to let you know that we are fine and so is our house.

We are so grateful he called and just about screamed at us to get out of here. I think I had mentioned to you? that I was going to relax and read that day. He called as soon as I logged off. We got ourselves together and were out of the house in 35 minutes and missed everything except for some wet highway driving. I did throw your books into the car and finished the first two.![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

That's a street leading to our circle of a street. Cars couldn't get in or out until the town cleaned that mess up. There were many other trees down and in the road. Fortunately, no homes were damaged. Our son was on his way to check on our house when he couldn't go any further. He took that photo and a few others and sent them to us. ![](/Content/images/emotes/cry.gif)

When I saw you'd responded somewhere on Aug 7 I simply thought you were giving posting a rest, it seems to be a trend around here lately.
I am glad you were in Cap Cod while that hurricane raged, I didn't keep up with the weather reports on hurricanes this time.

I tried to myLot on my phone then to the two newest posts. My son hasn't installed internet service at his beach house, yet, so I had to rely on my phone. It took forever, so I gave up.
Thank you! I'm so glad we listened to our son and set up the generator, packed, and left within 35 minutes after he pleaded with us to leave. My husband told him we'd be fine, but so glad we left.

@nela13 So true! We ate seafood every single day. The rotten part was that we ate fried oysters and fried clams last night with coleslaw, corn on the cob, and fries. It was so bad for us, but we loved it so much that we laughed while we ate it. ![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

That is strange, but my phone service was whacko.
Thanks so much. It's so good to be home, but the work is overwhelming me. I changed the bedding, did two loads of laundry, folded everything, put it away, helped hubs move humongous branches off the lawn, and have cleaned and dusted our bedroom and bathroom. The rest can wait. We were up so early and drove all the way home. Too much, too soon.

Our house is fine, thank goodness. The front yard doesn't look too good. We removed the house branches and broken tree trunks ourselves. Hubs is outside waiting for the cleanup crew right now. It's impossible for two people to do it alone.

I'm glad you were able to escape the hurricane and enjoy a mini vacation at Cape Cod. I'm also happy to hear that you didn't have any damage to your house. That storm really turned out to be worse than we expected.

Thanks! It was very quick moving. My son told us the sun was shining at 5:00PM. The power companies are in big trouble for not being prepared. 4% of the people in my town are still without power. Were you hit, too?
Our son was fine in NJ.

@DianneN we got so much rain it washed out small creeks and the rivers. Many streets were closed due to flooding and half our town was without power for days. Thankfully my power stayed on and we didn't get any flooding here. Some neighbors posted pictures on Facebook and it was pretty bad in some areas. All morning long we had tornado warnings and again, thankfully none happened. I don't ever remember getting tornado warnings until the last few years.

@Marilynda1225 I hear there were tornadoes in my brother's city, but none affected him. He has a small river in his backyard and said it filled high, but rushed along to the sea or wherever it goes. We all lucked out one way or another, thank goodness.

Oh Dianne, I had no idea the hurricane reached this far north! The photo shows that some terrible winds hit and your son was wise, suggesting you and hubs retreat to his extra home in Truro! With a family like yours, always watching over one another, you're covered by angels. My daughter's family lived in N. C. for 10 years, they went through hurricanes quite often. They'd stay indoors for a week!

Thanks, Karla. We've been trapped here before just like your daughter and her family. We would have been trapped if it wasn't for our son's intuition. So glad we had a safe place to go to. The rotten news is that he wants to sell it at the end of the summer. Where oh where will we go? lol

@DianneN I'm glad to hear that no-one was injured or killed! When a tornado touched down about 10 years ago in Tawas, there were a few homes with roof and water damage. Last summer, five touched down during the night, not one home was hit!![](/Content/images/emotes/angel.gif)

That must hard to be without power for that long. Your younger son is very very helpful. I am glad his power lines are underground. 22 hours is still a long time to be without power. I am glad you got away from what was going on and glad you are home now. I bet there was a real mess to clean up. Glad you are fine and made it through that.

I feel so bad for those without generators. They are needed here not only for lights, a/c, heat, etc., but to get water from our wells and to flush the toilets.
Our son's generators supplied him with power, so he was lucky. We also have a generator, but would have been trapped on our street with the fallen trees.
Thanks! It's so good to be home. It will take us about 3 days to clean up the yard. We did the large things today, but it's so hot out, that we decided to do more later and over the next few days.

i got hit by that storm. I had a tree uproot in our back yard and take out fences on 2 sides of the yard, and the top branches in my tulip tree on the side of my house were ripped off, kind of crushing my neighbors car, Ripping the power lines from the pole to our house off and sending branches in my front yard and my other neighbors yard.. pretty messy cleanup that is going to take forever to fix.. (cutting up huge tree trunk and repairing fences).. we just got our power back on yesterday. it was not a very fun week, and it consisted of little sleep.

@DianneN Indeed. only we can't really afford it... the good thing.. kind of.. is that this tree is already down. but it can roll over on someone if not cut up right.. my roommate plans to put some jacks up under it in a couple spots to prevent it from doing that.

I am sorry you were hit by the hurricane, but your house is safe. Our power lines are also all underground, I am glad because we often have thunderstorm during summer. You have a lot of work to do to clean up your garden Dianne. Do not overdo and take care.

@DianneN It was done many years ago here in Switzerland, only some very old houses up in the mountains still have aerial lines. I am glad they did before we moved here, I am sure the citizens had to pay for the upgrades.
I am so sorry you have such a big mess, I hope your house had no damages, but it hurts to see the garden with fallen trees and broken branches.

Thanks, Anna. We were lucky in the grand scheme of things. Only the new homes have underground utilities in our town. There was a huge public outcry to have them all be underground after this storm, but it costs 1 million dollars per mile, so it won't be done.
It's just one huge mess here, but at least the streets are cleared now.

@LadyDuck It seems we will have to live with the wires forever or until we move. We live in an upscale town, but the houses are far apart and one million per mile would bankrupt us, the town, and the companies involved.
The mess is all cleaned, finally, except for one huge branch that my husband can cut up in the fall when it's cooler. It's in the wooded area and can't be seen from the front of the house. Thanks, Anna. So glad that's over. Tonight I am requesting a HUGE martini!

I didn't realize the storm was still so strong when it hit up that way. So glad to hear you are safe Dianne. Good call by your son to head to the beach house. At least you were able to make the most out of a bad situation by having a nice time at the beach house.

That's a massive tree. My cousin's wife posted an IG story showing all the downed trees in Brooklyn where they live. It was crazy. I did not see anything like that by my house but we did have a power outage. Luckily, power was restored the same day for us but many New Yorkers remained without power for days.
Glad you are okay and that you had somewhere to escape during the storm.

I think that was only a branch.
. Those trees can take out parts of houses and cars with their weight.
You are so lucky you got your power back so quickly. There are some people in CT still without power after all this time. It's unthinkable.
Today I saw trucks on our street looking at trees near the power lines. Those need to come down before it's too late.
Thank you. We were wise to get out of Dodge this time.
