Our maid has a cold

It is scary that our maid started feeling bad yesterday after lunch. She has a cough with phlegm. We required her to wear a face mask and gave her medications. She can still work for she feels fine except the cough.
I am confident that it is not covid since she is protected by the mask and the shield. But we cannot be too sure, of course.

Just observe her that it doesn’t get worse. The worse symptom would be hard breathing and fever. If there are testing centers it would be good to have her tested to be sure. l think it’s colds season right now that is why you can get the ordinary colds these days as weather can be cold at night and very hot and humid in the day.

@Alexandoy Well according to some covid cough is dry and has no phlegm. But we should be vigilant about it since this is not yet proven but just observation from many who had it.

@rsa101 you are right, there are "millions" of opinion, facts, figures and speculations about covid. We do not know which is true.

There is no fever and it's just a minor cough that has phlegm. I am not worried by my wife's sister who is a nurse is very worried.

We cannot be too sure so we have to impose safety measures like making her wear face mask in the home.

My wife required her to wear the mask. I am confident that it is just a common cold but we cannot be too sure so we do not eat together for now. The cough has not worsened but I have noticed that she has phlegm when she coughs. It is scary. If after 2 days her condition will not improve then we have to bring her to the testing clinic.

@just4him thankfully yes. She is actually working and not like others who has a cold that would stay in bed. She is still sprightly except for the cough. But she has improved now.

I pray there must be nothing to worry but better if she could self quarantine for a few days and see how it goes. It's crucial to be proactive at this time.

@Miracle_Maya it was surprising to me when I heard her coughing yesterday afternoon. So now it is just 24 hours that she is sick and I hope tomorrow she will feel better. We gave her medications, food and even oranges.

She is actually careful with the mask and shield. She avoids crowds in the market and she washes her hands once she comes home. But the symptoms of cold is the same as covid so we are kind of scared.

@Alexandoy it's very unfortunate that she has to catch a cold soon after the shield was introduced. Like you said, the symptoms are same and that's why it's very vital to be all the more cautious.

Just be careful until you know for sure what she has or doesn't have. It might just be a cold, or it might be COVID. You never know. Be safe.

@Alexandoy Hey, I just read about the earthquake in the Philippines. I know you live some ways away from where the epicenter was, but I just wanted to check in and make sure you and your family are okay. Did you feel the quake?

Its so sad that if someone gets a cold people freak out, if we are in the store and cough people will run the other way and it's just not right. I believe we are so divided. But that's just my opinion.

@hillhjill our maid is young and healthy so if it is covid she can surely overcome. Right now she wears a mask and is isolated.

@Alexandoy I honestly don't see the big issue with this as it has a very high survival rate and for most it's just a cold. Let the body do it's job.

@Alexandoy yes. The sooner the better because the virus is very aggressive and the health of the individual deteriorates very fast and there is no medication as such other than ventilator support, remdesivir injection and plasma therapy which are also not very helpful in people with comorbidity ( other pre medical condition like asthma, BP, heart problem etc ..).
