Face Shield For Onions

My mother asked me to peel off some onions. I feel so hesitant to do it because it will make me cry. With a quick of weirdness, I use the face shield that I bought two days ago. Is that a brilliant idea? By the way, today is the official day to use face shields in my country. Are you required to use a face mask with a face shield? Image Credit: cdn.i-scmp.com

They said soak the onions in water for sometime then it will not make you cry. Here wearing face shield is a must, never saw someone using face shield.

@rhuenz Yes it works dear. You could soak it for a few minutes like she said or usually I just peel the onions first and then wash it slightly in running tap water, just to save the time taken for keeping it soaked.

I keep the onions in the refrigerator a couple of hours, this prevents crying when you chop them. We are not required to wear a face shield.

Good idea although I do not need it while cutting the onions. I don't use face shield although I have one because it is very inconvenient.

@MALUSE I find it exaggerated, too. I think the local government officials are in a panic. So they asked the locals to do this.

@Shavkat The photo shows a mask *and* a face shield. Do you use both? That seems a bit exaggerated to me.

Face shield will not protect you from the burning sensation due to the onions. The best way is to freeze the onions for 10 minutes before pealing or chopping.

@Shavkat just for 10 minutes you need to keep the onions you wish to cut. This will prevent the vapourising of the irritation causing chemicals in the onion cells that leak out while you cut the onion.
