Hughes a 10 year old school boy living near a northern Ireland town of Ulster is very found of digging old artifacts hidden under ground. So his parents gifted him a metal detector instead of the usual toys and electronic gizmos they gift him every year.
The boy felt very happy and soon started using the metal detector to scan his neighbourhood area . Few days back while he was spending his time with his new gadget the alarm on the detector went off. Hughes dug up to find a a metal trinket , second time too it was some metal scrap but the third time as the alarm went off he decided to seek his father's help as the artifact seem to be quiet deep under the soil.
On digging the father son duo were surprised to find a sword. They consulted the local archeology officials who identified it to be an officer's sword from the 18th century.
Hughes has become a sort of local celebrity for the discovery and wish to continue his passion.
it's truly a happy feeling when we discover something of historical significance.

This is a typical example of how a simple hobby could lead to bigger achievements in life if channeled properly.

the sword was in a rusted condition. It is of no value to the boy but of high value for the historians. Hope the boy is suitably rewarded for his efforts.

Most probably the Hughes family will hand over the sword to the archeological survey department or to a museum for it safe upkeep.
