My husband won't cook my dinner

Vince does almost all the cooking in our house and I always praise him lavishly a) because he is a great cook and b) because I hate cooking. I do cook from time to time and I also do all the cleaning up. However, he has refused to cook for me this evening. I have been teasing him saying it’s not fair and why can’t he cook me a roast or something equally nice. The reason he is not cooking is because he has been fasting all day and won’t be having anything to eat until tomorrow afternoon. He is to have an endoscopy and a colonoscopy tomorrow. As you can imagine, the poor fellow is getting pretty hungry. He is allowed clear stock and Bonox but it’s far from satisfying. The procedures happen every few years as he and his siblings have a genetic makeup which renders them more susceptible to certain types of cancers. Naturally, we’re hoping for a positive outcome. The photo is a trifle he made once when we had visitors. And in case you don't know me very well, I am just joking about being upset that he won't cook my meal. There is no way I'd expect him to cook if he can't eat it.

Poor Vince, I can understand that cooking while you are fasting is a torture, I would not blame him to refuse to cook. Good luck of his endoscopy and colonoscopy.

@JudyEv I used to hide in the kitchen to eat when my husband had to fast.

Thanks. I ate my meal very quietly and he didn't even notice I'd had it.

I don't envy him what he is having done tomorrow. My doctor has been fussing at me for not having mine done yet. I just can't get past that awful stuff you have to drink. It makes me so sick.

@JudyEv It's so disgusting and tastes so salty. Here, it's a huge bottle filled with liquid you have to drink. You have a certain amount of time to drink it in. Yuck! I wish I was still in Tennessee because my old gastro doctor had pills but I didn't know about it until it was too late.

@simone10 Vince had three sachets of powder to mix with a glass of water. He had one at 5pm, one at 9pm and another at 8am next morning. He said they weren't bad but had a saccharine taste he didn't like.

I'm sorry it makes you sick. Vince hasn't complained about it although he doesn't like it much.

My husband likes to barbecue...and in the kitchen his favourite meals to prepare are eggs and toast or spaghetti. I enjoy cooking....just not necessarily the cleanup. All that work....and then in fifteen minutes....it's gone... Hoping to hear that the results of Vince's test were what you are hoping for. Stay well,

Thanks for the kind words. I find that with cooking too. You can spend all day preparing a special meal and in a very short space of time, it's gone and you have to start worrying about the next meal.

Tomorrow won't be fun for either of you. Will those procedures take a long time? That desert does look good, now I'm hungry for blue berries ..... I know, what's blueberries got to do with peaches, right?

I hope his procedures go very well. Hubs is due for a colonoscopy and informed the doctor that he will skip it this year. Fortunately, it's just routine.

Vince's is routine too. Many of these routine procedures were being cancelled earlier but it seems it's mostly all systems go again now.

When I was a kid, we only saw trifle at Christmas and it would have coconut on top. It would be nice with strawberries.

@Ronrybs It's a shame in a way as it ceases to be a real treat. Once, we only ever had mushrooms from the paddocks after the first rains. And watermelon only in summer in season. Now you can get both year round.

Having just gone through a colonoscopy this year myself, I can totally relate to what Vince is going through. For a guy like me who is used to shoveling food in my mouth all day long, having to fast prior to the procedure was no easy task. I hope Vince survives! haha

It's a long time really. A full day and then all this morning until the procedure at midday. Did your tummy growl a lot at being so empty?
