Painted lady butterflies migrate 14,000 kms every year

I came across an article where it is mentioned that butterflies migrate long distance in search of flowers from one continent to another. Among all butterflies the painted ladybird travels the most covering a distance of 14,000 Kms . They migrate from North to South from August to January and from South to North during February to July months. They fly non stop and trav over 4000 Kms at a stretch and stop only to lay eggs, to feed and take some rest. As the new butterflies emerge they continue the migration. They don't hibernate unlike other butterflies. I believed only birds migrated but now insects also seem to migrate long distances.

They are really lovely and very tough little creatures to be able to get so far.

@lovinangelsinstead21 these butterflies store energy in the form of fat for the long journey and don't eat anything for at least 4000 Kms.

Yes. It's amazing for the butterflies to have such flying abilities. These insects are so small that maybe the winds too help them to cover long distance.
