They Don't Make Things Like They Used To

Monday afternoon, my tablet went kaput. The screen just went black while I was on it. I tried everything I knew to get it to work. I even took the back off which was no easy task. My brother was upset because he had bought it for me for my birthday 4 years ago. I told him things just aren't meant to last anymore, especially electronics.
So, I had no choice but to try and find another one. I couldn't find one the quality of the one my brother got me but the one I bought will just have to work. I only use it when I am in the living room anyway. Sometimes I mylot with it. My new tablet is supposed to arrive today.
Do you find that things aren't built to last anymore? I remember my grandmother having a chest freezer that she had for many, many years. I don't know how old it was but it looked old, even to me as a child. Yet, that freezer was still working when she passed away 40 years later.

That happened to me. I brought it to an electronic repair shop. It was fixed in an instant. There was a wire that got disconnected.

Earlier buckets were made of steel. Now they are made of plastic.

We bought our chest freezer around 1978. It is still running. (Knock on wood) New things just aren't made to last. Have a great Wednesday.

@simone10 I don't know. We have a Sony and Panasonic TV that have gone I think more than 10 years. They make good products.

Well lets just ask Apple, every year they launch a new phone forcing people to get it and letting them know the previous year's phone isn't brand new anymore!

In the olden days the household items were of very good quality and they never needed repair. Nowadays even an ordinary light bulb didn't last more than a year or two . Most electronics gadgets become outdated after 1 year and you need to buy a new one.

@jayanth_77 Yes and I think they make them that way on purpose.

@simone10 yes you are right. Further most electronic items you buy today are mostly use and throw. You can't repair it any longer. You can atmost replace the faulty circuit board which are very expensive and it's better to go for a new device.

I think it is worth investing in an iPad, Apple still seems to make things that last. I have every one of my old iphones and they still work. I am really thinking about getting a Mac for my next laptop.

@simone10 I love my eye phone and invest in a Speck case, it is a worthwhile investment.

@BelleStarr The only thing I'm not sure of is how often a new version of the iPhone comes out. It would be very expensive to have to buy a new phone every few years.

I find that with some electronics they are made with a short shelf life.
My hubby has a different brand name laptop then I do.
My laptop is older, but still is much more stable then his is.
I find that if you listen to what others are saying about products it is good research in some cases and can help you make a wise decision when its time to make a purchase.

I think that is what happened to my tablet, a short shelf life. Of course, I did use it a lot every day. My brother bought it through T-Mobile back when they had a special going on. He paid quite a lot for it and that's why he's so upset. Of course, he didn't even think to research it and up until it just quit, I never had any issues at all with it.
