I don't know if people are actually "scared" of it (as it isn't really "horrifying") ... it's simply "not knowing if the reality you're experiencing is 'real,' or if 'this is the dream, and what you were dreaming before is the reality.'"
The episode of The Librarians--I think it was 'the final one,' so SPOILER ALERT just in case--

features The 4 Librarians & their Guardian getting thrown into a reality where The Library never existed.
Oh, they find their way back to The Library and they successfully Tether 'The Library' to reality by marrying the Prime Librarian with The Guardian; but it got me thinking, 'How do we know WE aren't living in a dream (and it's pulling us away from "reality," which we think is the dream we're gradually forgetting)?'
I THINK we know the difference, because reality has 'a history'---in a dream, where you are is usually 'where you've always been'; but in reality, you were 'somewhere else' before you got where you are ... and there is a process of getting 'wherever you are' FROM someplace else.

Are you talking about an episode of a show that you have been watching regularly? I would like to know more. This is looking like an interesting thriller

It's kind of 'an old' show (not very-very old, but not currently filming anything new). They're streaming it on hulu
Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle: ER, Falling Skies) may appear to be an ordinary librarian working for the world-famous Metropolitan Library, but beneath the public library lies the centuries-old headquarters of scholars and adventurers who investigate the bizarre
