Teaching kids to write and read

My main mission for now is to teach my eldest son to write essays and my daughter to read. My eldest son enjoys reading. I don't know how he picked up reading, he just started to read on his own. Perhaps by asking me some questions here and there sometimes when I was busy taking care of my youngest. I have been finding ways to encourage him to write. Finally, now he started to enjoy writing more, though there are still mistakes here and there, those can be corrected soon. I am happy that he finally developed the habit of writing. My another big challenge is to teach my daughter to read. I have been finding ways to teach her read. Finally I have found some beginner readers that she is interested in, and I think I'll just let her keep practicing. Hopefully by more practice, she'll get to learn phonics, recognize the words, and later she can read a book on her own. So now I have to prepare daily writing and reading practice for both of them.
