Some cities in my country are starting to implement an 'anti-spitting' ordinance. It seems that there will be a ripple effect to other provinces here. To sum it up, there will be new signage on the streets. The purpose is to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Do you think it is a good idea?

Corona or no corona it's a much appreciated step. I hope they start it here in my country. Preaching doesn't work here.

@arunima25 That's the sad part. I hope my local government can consider going back to the basics.

@Shavkat Education solves a lot of issues on all fronts. The main reason for so many issues in third world country is lack of good education and awareness. But here many so called educated also indulge in such unlawful behavior. Only strict actions work for them

With or without COVID-19 people should not spit anywhere, other diseases could be spread by spitting not just covid. It's a pity that there should still be an ordinance , fines and signages for something very simple and natural not to do in public

You said it right. It should not be done by the locals. Unfortunately, we cannot control them in doing it. In my own thinking, the DOH should consider this to educate the people about the respiratory droplets that may spread lung diseases, such as COVID-19.

L think this should be implemented more right now since we have that bad habit for sometime already that when we see it though disgusting they may look we tolerate them that is why many are still practicing this bad habit. With the new virus spreading this spitting habit can further aggravate the situation.

People donĀ“t usually do that in my country. But if they do in yours, it is a very good idea specially now. A couple of centuries ago, even fine people used to spit here and they had special vases to do so in the rooms of well to do peopple.

Spitting is a disgusting habit period. I don't particularly enjoy seeing or stepping on someone's spit - super gross. It's crazy there needs to be signage about something that should be common sense . . . but well, not everyone has the same common sense regarding health.

@much2say Honestly, I have not seen one up close. In my city, we do not have this ordinance. I must say that people in my city are quite disciplined with this matter.
I checked this out. In Camarines Norte, Philippines. The signage looks like this.

@erictsuma If we are not doing this, things will not be successful.
