Look what was in my shade-house

I often say I’m not a gardener and I’ve proven it again. We have a shade-house that we built. In other climates, it’s probably more commonly known as a hot-house or green-house. Ours has a few pots of this and that, all very tough plants, and is watered automatically. Occasionally I go in and do a bit of weeding and/or repotting.
Before we went away on the weekend, I noticed a plant had a very tall spike with a lot of buds. It was either an orchid or a lily. I was given an orchid several years ago. My heart sank at the time as I thought I’d never keep it alive. At some stage I must have repotted it because look what I found when we came home.
Isn’t it just the most beautiful orchid? All I can say is that they must thrive on neglect.

It is amazing. And this clearly shows those who have to thrive succeed in doing it no matter what

It must be really something to see them in the wild. They are regarded as exotic here and are quite expensive.

It is beautiful, Judy!
I planted Gladiolus this Spring, hoping to have some beautiful flowers filling in my flower bed in front of the house behind the purple Oxalis bulbs I planted. The Oxalis did great but the Gladiolus only put up big fans of leaves. I thought I'd have to wait until next year to see them...
A couple of days ago Pretty and I were outside when I got a great surprise! (I'll post a photo of what we found.)

@JudyEv Thank you.
Yes, you're right. We saw no sign the plants were getting ready to bloom and then flowers everywhere.
This is what we saw before the plants started blooming.
