In your opinion, what makes a country "great"?

Supporters of Donald Trump are happy to wave banners and wear baseball caps that bear the slogan "Make America Great Again", but I wonder what they really mean by "great"? What do you think they mean, and what would you mean if you used that word when describing a country?

There appear to be a few exceptions, mainly fellow circus members.

My definition of what makes a country 'great' and Trump's would very likely be poles apart. I think that what would make any country 'great' would have to include that all of its residents could enjoy a happy and peaceful life with good housing, clean water, full employment, free health care, a strong economy and a fair legal system. Perhaps, additionally, it should be respected by other nations for things like its ability to mediate fairly and peacefully in other countries' disputes when required.

@indexer Of course, it was never "Great America" but England, Scotland and Wales together have been "Great Britain" for some time now!

@owlwings Ho-ho! I have a feeling that there could be a semantic nicety at play here!

That sounds like a very fair assessment, but one from which the US appears to fall short in a number of respects.

A country is great if there is no corruption.

I am not sure what they mean, what is no more great? Freedom? Democracy? Economy? We should ask them.

Making a country great again would mean the respect for democracy, other people's constructive opinions and guarantee freedom of speech, among others. Most of them violated in my own country, Venezuela.

I suppose that a country is great when the people from other countries are not ashamed of how said country is run. Just saying.

I think we all have a pretty good idea what they mean It's all very subjective and because we're all different, we value different things in life. But for me, personally, a country being great means harmonious race relations, equality, peace, law and order, security and tranquillity FOR ALL. That's what my country strives for and that's the reason I'm so happy to live here even though it's far from perfect.
