Free Money: Will YOU keep it?

I bought something in the supermarket today. Once I got out of this place, I saw two teens were giggling. I overheard that one of the teen boys claiming to have an extra change and the other was arguing with him to return the free money. They bought some groceries in the establishment before me. I assumed that the cashier committed a mistake in giving extra change. Eventually, he did agree and gave it back. Did it happen to you, too? Would you keep it or not? I had experienced this for a couple of times with a particular small store here. I kept on asking the owner to check the change first before giving it to her buyers.

If I find money I keep it, if I receive extra change I give back, I do not want that the cashier is penalized.

I wish they have been honest. It is not from a moral standpoint. But I believe as a human being the next generation should be taught values that will make for a better society. Imagine this young person becoming a powerful politician. IMagine what he will do to the people and the funds

I agree. The young generations need to be sensitive and be honest at all times. I hope the biological parents can teach them about this concern. Moral values always start at home.

lf you were there at the store at the time you realize that they gave you excess change then you are morally obliged to return it so you can help the cashier getting the right cash balance at the end of the day. But if you’ve realized that after and it is just hard to go back then l guess you can keep it or maybe donate that to someone who might be in need of that excess change.

Yes I’d I noticed that the charge that was give to me was in correct I would return the money that was extra or go back in and let them know they short changed me. A lot of stores they do add in some change being off because it happens we are human after all.

@Shavkat I might not have to do with how the cashier is doing. I worked retail and it’s real easy to miscount when giving money back especially when it’s cash.

@ShyBear88 I think I cannot do what a cashier does in a supermarket. It will be so tiring every day.

I agree. We are still humans that can commit mistakes. We need to be understanding with this concern. Perhaps the cashier was so tired working the whole day.

@Shavkat Yes it sometimes happen to me too .And I am returning the extra change to the cashier. Honesty and Integrity is at stake .I use to be a cashier before and when cashiers make mistakes in giving change it will be charged to the cashier, meaning the cashier eill pay for that. So its best to return the extra money.
