At the market this morning where I bought brooms - tambo and tingting, my daughter purchased also a set of 'arnis' sticks. When I asked why, she lamented leaving behind her arnis in London, bequeathing the sticks to a fellow student who wanted to learn the art. Then this afternoon, I saw the trailer of Disney's Southeast Asian heroine - Raya. News has it that the writers did incorporate a little of all the Southeast Asian cultures in Raya. Right away, I saw the arnis. Ha ha. So, before you guys wonder what that Philippine art is, watch our old master in action. He taught the Russians, the Australians, the Japanese, the Americans the best martial art. Yup, filmdom's protagonists had to learn arnis also for movies like Bourne Identity.

Thanks for sharing! I remember back in high school wherein arnis was part of our PE and I enjoyed learning the art and I regret not continuing to learn it, although I still have my sticks though. :)

Your sticks must be made of fine yantok. Glad you learned the art. Try to practice and enhance the skill. Arnis is our own and the next generations must know the art.

Whoa! I wish the convent schools had this in the Physical Education classes. They taught us gymnastics. The teachers expected us to do the cartwheel. Grrrr. Had they taught us arnis, it would have been even-steven for all the students. You have to practice, buddy. The skill could come in handy.

Studied arnis back in high school as it was part of the curriculum. Wish I paid more attention. Would be great to study both stick fighting and knife fighting nowadays.

Not too late relearning arnis. In one video I watched, Australian arnis masters sought and tested the prowess of our arnis supreme master in Cebu. He was 72 years old but more agile than the visitors.
