All Souls's Day Forgotten

It seems the usual celebration of All Souls' Day last November 2 was forgotten because of the storm and of COVID.
There was a raging storm last Nov.2 and all attention was focused into it. Another was because all cemeteries were closed to avoid people flocking there; to prevent the spread of the virus.
I just prayed and lit candles before my small altar at home and prayed for the departed family members and friends.

While some traditions might be forced to change, as long as you remember those you've lost. They're not forgotten.

@acelawrites Yes, they do. And, nothing can take that from you.

Yes, it was; unlike before when there were so many people at the cemeteries.

The flame on my glass candle was finally extinguished at four this morning. There was no more wax left to burn. I did spend yesterday remembering my family's departed, and friends, too.
When we pray for the souls in purgatory, their souls are purified, and they get to heaven. When we say their names, heaven allows these souls to peep and smile down upon us. I think my beloved parents did exactly that yesterday.

@acelawrites We hold that tradition because it is incumbent upon the church militant (us who are still alive) to pray and help the church penitent (suffering in purgatory) so they could be purified to enter heaven where the church triumphant rejoices.

I did it too; remembered and said their names while praying for them. It's a nice tradition.

@acelawrites I'm so sorry. Did you lose many people?

@DianneN there were many casuakties in the Bicol region; provinces near the sea and where the strong typhoon Rolly first landed.

It was the highlight of remembrance; people also flock there to meet family members; sort of a reunion too!

@acelawrites Yes, it's really sad. Sometimes I think we will never go back to normal life again.

i don't know about your area, but here in MM, the mayors told people a long time ago to visit any day before all saints/all souls day to avoid mass gathering on nov. 1 and 2 because they will be closing the cemeteries. and it turned out to be the right decision because of the typhoon. imagine if people were at the cemetery on nov. 1 and 2. what would have happened to them and to their homes and their loved ones?

There was a ban for people to go to the cemeteries last November 1 and 2; but they were allowed on any other days.

It is a tradition in our country; for most Catholic to bring flowers and candles to the graves of the departed loved ones every November 2.

@acelawrites The number of people inside the cemetery was limited this year.
