A week or so ago, I faced with a racist post in mylot due to Trump comments on the Chinese virus and one of the person that I had followed insisted that CO-VID 19 is a Chinese Virus.
Personally I felt that it is not fair to attribute the current virus to any race. I am shock to learn that how the person not staying in America insisted that the virus is a Chinese Virus.
Actually Chinese is a race. It may not just refer to Chinese staying in China. They could be oversea Chinese. Like myself I am a Singapore Born Chinese. By sticking a virus tag based on race is not a fair thing. The same thing goes for Spanish flu which is not originated in Spain but the only reason why it is called a Spanish flu at that time is due to the political reasons.
I had unfollowed the person whom did that and hope that the person will learn the lesson and be more sensitive.

I think people get too lost in words. The virus started in China. Things in China are Chinese. We call cuisine from China Chinese food. The word Chinese does not refer to a race. It refers to people in a country and things that come from China.
Just like American is not a race, or Russian, or French. French fries are no more racist than French dressing.
People need to stop making everything about race and start using their heads and thinking about things a bit more. The ENTIRE idea of racism has simply become a huge joke and nobody can rightly take it seriously anymore who has a thinking brain cell left in their head.

I agree that it was a racist comment. Spanish Flu did not originate in Spain, it is still unsure from where it came, may be from the United States, where the first known case was reported at a military base in Kansas on March 11, 1918. Covid-19 is NOT a Chinese virus, Blame Trump for spreading this idea. is not "Chinese" even if it was discovered in China first.

@LindaOHio Huh? The virus originated in China. lol. I think all the president said was where it came from. When we KNOW the virus came from Wuhan, China, had the president NOT said where it came from, he'd have been called an idiot. lol

Sadly, there's a lot of people out there that are single-minded like that. If I can, I try to educate and if that fails, blocking and ignoring them. People like that are toxic, and while they're entitled to their opinion, getting into a heated argument over it solves nothing. Just like the Spanish Flu, Covid is more about playing politics than the actual virus, itself. If you get a hint of a cold, you're going to get at least one paranoid person, freaking out and calling it Covid. So, once the politics stop, the number dropping stops, so will the "threat". I just hope it doesn't take three years like with the Spanish Flu.

I did not see the post to which you refer, so I cannot comment on whether it was racist or not, however, I would like to be very clear about the term 'racist'.
Simply calling the Covid-19 virus a "Chinese virus" is NOT racist. It may be inaccurate but it is not a racist statement in any way.
The word 'Chinese' is an adjective and can be applied to anything which relates to the country of China, NOT just the people who live there today or who identify China as their country of origin. It is perfectly legitimate, for example, to call a vase or a painting Chinese if it was made in China or in a specifically Chinese style. When used as a noun, 'The Chinese' on its own would refer to the Chinese people as a whole. Again, it's not a 'racist' term, any more than 'the Americans' or 'the English' is. It carries not connotations of inferiority or superiority, which is what a racist statement, comment or remark must do in order to be called racist.
I don't think that anyone disputes the fact that Covid-19 first mutated and was discovered to affect humans in China from whence it spread to the rest of the world. It is therefore quite correct, in one sense, to call it 'Chinese'. What is wrong, of course, is to thereby imply that it was deliberately created or spread by the Chinese Government or any member of the Chinese race, and that is what Trump clearly tried to do.
The word 'China', by the way, may also have more than one meaning in English. It may refer to the country or it may refer to a particular kind of porcelain and the clay from which it is made ('China clay') which is found and mined in many parts of the world, not just in China.

Back in the less-PC days it was common to name a pandemic after where it started, such as the massive 1918-1919 flu pandemic that's known as the "Spanish flu."

There's always bad comments about Muslim (not on this site) and then bad comments about Asian. I have to face double bad comments. People are not the same. It's the same for all nations. Why can't they see that? So far I am glad I don't have to face any of that here yet.

Whether it started in China, we should help our own country to be responsible in following the safety protocols. I have a relative in China, so what she does daily is Chinese.

I feel that this was a racist comment.
The president of the US was famous for pointing his finger and blaming China for the flu.
That is very wrong, but remember, he has insulted many a country, their people and their leaders.
Not everyone has his shallow mindset, many of us refer to it as covid 19, which is what it is.
When someone upsets us on the site here, we have the option to unfollow, that is better then to say things that should not be said, good for you for doing that.
