When Covid Hits Close To Home

United States
November 7, 2020 10:31am CST
It's been a nerve wracking week for me and I didn't say anything until now. My daughter in law works for her church and since it's a big church they have a big congregation as well as staff. This week both the pastor and his wife tested positive for Covid . Both have symptoms and are quarantined. So everyone on staff etc had to have Covid tests. That included my daughter in law, my son and grandsons. Thankfully my family all tested negative but other staff members are positive. One person is in the hospital on a ventilator. It's easy to forget how quickly this virus spreads so it's just a gentle reminder to be vigilant. Stay safe and well my friends

I've been sticking to the home front mostly and so far I don't have any symptoms, trouble is next week I will need to go shopping cuz I need to restock the freezer.

Something that is helping me is to put a drop of lavender oil inside my mask. It even cleared up the one case of sniffles I had. There are many antibacterial and antiviral essential oils, if you do not like lavender.

Just make sure to wear your mask, distance and try to get in and out quickly. I'm sure you'll be okay.

Oh my, I am so sorry for the one on a ventilator. I do not forget how quickly this virus spreads. We stay at home most of the time, we are not young and my husband not particularly healthy.

@Marilynda1225 We only go out very early in the morning for a quick grocery shopping, from 7 am to 9 am is for "seniors only", the stores are almost empty it's safe. I am pretty sure we will be alone for the holiday. I can understand how worried you were.

@LadyDuck I'm pretty sad that we probably wont all be together for the holidays but it's a small sacrifice for everyone to stay safe and well

I've become a hermit (almost) since all this started. I haven't seen some of my grandchildren since March and with the virus surging its debatable if we'll be together for the holidays. I was a wreck all week worrying about my son and his family.

When my dad got it I was terrified. I really wondered if he'd survive it. Three people in our church had it, but the other two only had mild symptoms. I'm just glad all are recovered. And I'm so glad your family is okay.

@Marilynda1225 Worrying when it comes close to home. I got an email from my father’s care home today telling me that two members of staff are positive. Visits have been banned for months now but he’s on the ground floor so I can knock his window and wave in at him. Better than nothing.

Looks like the surge is everywhere. I feel especially bad for people like your dad who can't have visitors. I'm sure he's happy that you can tap on the window and wave. Never in my lifetime did I ever think I'd experience a global pandemic. Hope your dad stays well

I completely agree it is a scary time. Especially the speed it spreads and not knowing how serious the affects will be till you get it. My partners grandparents got it. Her Grandmother had a slight cough her Grandfather was hospitalised and passed away in a couple of days. Though he had existing health conditions.

I haven't been to church since July. I only went once when our church opened up again at 30% capacity. They are playing if very safe in our diocese of Toronto. My parish priest is particularly vigilant. We only have 4 staff and a lot of volunteers. My daughter volunteers at one mass to escort people to their assigned seats and sanitize the church after mass. I wish all a speedy recovery.

Our church also has limited capacity and has been taking all the precautions since they were allowed to reopen. Hope your daughter stays safe as well as the rest of you.

very few of our churches are open in SA - we are not congregating at all - some have car park sermons and others have the drive-through sacrament. but most have a youtube service sent to everyone

My son's church has in person but have limited to only a certain amount of people. They are seated far apart and everyone wears a mask. I watch the service online as do many others. With the surge happening again I'm sure church and other places will be closed Having online and car park sermons is a great idea.

It is a relief that you family members tested negative, thankfully. I'm sorry that it has affected you so close to home. None of us are immune to this, and we all need to be so careful, and always washing our hands, not touching our faces, and for most of us, telling those that we love, that we do love them as often as we can.

My son's church has been taking all the precautions . The church is sanitized frequently, no one can enter without a mask, etc and only a certain number of parishioners are able to attend services. They offer online viewing which really helps.
