We sold our car trailer today

We sold our car trailer today. We bought it some years ago when we renovated a huge bus into a motor home. We intended to tow a smaller vehicle behind the bus as the bus was a bit inconvenient to park or take down the street if you wanted a litre of milk. We’ve used it quite often for a number of purposes but we’re scaling down and it’s time to move it on. We advertised it yesterday, sold it the same day and it’s been picked up and is on its way to its new home. One less thing to licence, insure and worry about. As you can see from the photo, it was a long unit when hooked to the bus.

It was longer than I would want to tow. You were lucky to have sold it so fast.

It was a bit unwieldy really. And yes, we were lucky to sell it so quickly.

@judyev I would like to be manoeuvring that monster round the back roads of Donegal, especially since back roads are all we have.

We bought a motor-home in Drogheda and that was bad enough in some areas. We nearly got it stuck in France and had to back our way out through several streets.

@JudyEv Many French villages were never designed for even a small car.

@xFiacre I can believe it. We were trying to dodge some roadworks. Bad mistake!!

It was getting very little use really although, when we did need it, it was very handy.

@LadyDuck Certainly the bus was but without the bus we didn't have much use for the trailer.

They are unwieldy but have their purpose from time to time. It's good it's gone. We were lucky.

@DocAndersen We didn't research the prices much but now we think we got a pretty good price for it. For not too much more, he could have bought a new one although he would have had to add the winch and ramps.

We were lucky with this, I think. We only had the one serious phone call and he bought it so that was good.

Did you sell it cheap? I mean selling something in this pandemic is hard especially if it wasn't a primary needs.

We sold it for a little more than we paid for it so I think we were very lucky. The pandemic isn't affecting our state too much now.

@Cheyee The only new cases are those coming in from overseas. Those people are going straight into quarantine. So we are very lucky.

I know that it served its purpose while you had the bus, but with your current caravan you would not need it. I am sure that it will be put to good use by the new owners.

You are right in that it wasn't getting used much at all. The new owner was off to pick up a car with it so he wasn't wasting any time.

That's great that you sold it so fast. Sounds like it was a very easy process for you, and now you have one less thing to worry about. I can imagine it was interesting to drive that motor home and haul that trailer behind it.

We only took the car once but, on that trip, we had two blow-outs on the bus. We only had one spare tyre. Luckily we could stop in an open area and hitched the poor little car to the car trailer, loaded the two tyres and took them off to tyre service place. Yes, it was certainly long!

Most people don't use those here. They just use a "car tow." But glad you found a buyer for it. I think, if I remember right, you don't have the bus either anymore?

That's what this one was originally but more specifically a school bus. Here is some of the inside when we had finished converting it. There was a double bed, toilet and shower in the far end.

Long and absolutely no fun to maneuver in small places. I drove a 37 foot RV pulling a Jeep Grand Cherokee for five years. I avoided small areas when and where I could. I did have to pull the Jeep off on a few occasions because it was simply not possible to go where I needed to go with it attached.

You need to think ahead with such a long rig, that's for sure. Mostly we got away without towing a car. Did you do a lot of miles in the five years?

mercy, i can see the need fer certain fer such. i'd not wish to move that big bus 'round jest to fetch a few groceries. wonderful such sold so quickly'n 'tis gone. i hope whome'er purchased such gets great use out'ta 't. i've been tryin' to get the hubs to turn loose 'f our sundowner (3 horse slant trailer) fer some years. he refuses 'n such sits out'n the pasture gatherin' dust'n rust. i don't do long hauls with horses anymore, 've a stock trailer fer local/short hauls. he's that danged camper (used to use the sundowner to go huntin', 'tis a dressin' room'n the front 'n he did such by horseback) 'n jeep so why not sell't to someone with a need? 'n get't off the payroll, too.

@JudyEv yepperz, that such'd be. there's a 'sleeper' section'n the nose, holds a queen size mattress. a handy person could easily rig more comforts if'n they wished. the saddle rack/tack gizmo fits'n the front 'r the back. makes me cranky coz i'd put new sneaks'n such prior to my illness, 'bout $2,000 down the drain 's i'm certain they've dry-rotted. still've the lil nubbies. sigh... i'd see if'n such'd make 't to the front'n slap a 'fer sale' sign but the hubs's still not 'nloaded all his huntin' schtuff. i nearly fainted when i opened the doors the other day. filled chest high with 'schtuff'! to say i'm disgruntled'd be a huge 'nderstatement.

Your sundowner would be great for a horse-owner. Many of the endurance riders have similar setups but sometimes only two horse bays. Some had a cupboard built in for harness and cooking facilities/bed in the front. It's a shame about yours. It will only deteriorate out in the paddock.
