OMG! Another Bomb

was found in our city. I was preparing our dinner when I heard a loud announcement down our street that I went out to the balcony to understand what was announced. I didn´t understand as the car announcing was already so far for me to understand.
Hubby found out online that it was an announcement for us to stay inside the house with closed windows. The 2nd world war bomb was found under the ground not far from the railway station in our city where a construction company was starting to dig out the ground for building a new building. It was a US bomb thrown out in our city during the war. People who are living nearby were evacuated before the bomb experts did their job.
I have no idea how many times I have experienced this announcement living in Germany for 4 decades. I am sure this is not the last bomb found under the German ground.
I am glad that I live outside the radius of the place where the bomb was found. I am thankful that every time like this, I am safe. Thank God and to the bomb experts.
Have you experienced something like this before in your country? Thanks for reading.

I am sure that was scary for the people living closer. The bomb may not have enough amunition to detonate again, but it's always better to be safe than to be sorry. I am glad the officials warned everyone in the way they did.

The people were told when the bomb was found and they set a time to evacuate the people before they get the bomb out of the ground. The officials warn the people always and that is good. Thank you @ScribbledAdNauseum

That is very scary. Once in awhile you hear about something like that happening here near military bases or fields were the military trained but nowhere near I have been living.

That’s scary. People working on electric, water and sewage lines should be careful when they do their work. It would even be better if they have bomb detectors to scan their work area before they start work.

@thelme55 That should also include people working on the construction of new buildings.

Yes, they are very careful @sunrisefun as they are skilled workers. I am sure they have bomb detectors as looking for an existing bomb in the building area is I think what they must do first. That is why people are evacuated first before detonating a bomb.

We have a few cases where people found a bomb that can still explode in this country. It's rare but it still exist. The war, despite ending a long time ago, still left traces that can hurt us.
Thank God that you and the people around you are safe.

These "relics" are a sad reminder of our brutal history. Good thing that technology and modern tools are able to detect and/or extract these bombs. While it has been decades since the war has ended, one can never be too sure of the fire power of these.

No I've not even considered the possibility of this before. I wonder if there's a way to find the bombs before the digging begins? Something like a geiger counter I'm thinking.

@thelme55 so did they realize the bomb was there before they began digging out after?

@MarshaMusselman I think so as they usually use metal detector or so before digging the ground.

They have a bomb detector before digging the ground for building purposes @MarshaMusselman. Thank you and have a nice Friday the 13th.

That's quite scary, for sure there are still those found anywhere else. Wonder if our country had made a through investigation on bomb explosions like the one in a mall in Makati no that could be one real bomb.

I am sure there are still some under the ground which are not discovered, yet @florelway. I wonder about that, too. Thank you.

@thelme55 that's possible there are plenty hidden underground. Remember our country was ruled by different colonizers that were all part of world wars.

Good that the bomb did not blast. There is a news every now and then about finding live 2nd W.W. bombs in your country.
Longtime back during the independence of our state from Portuguese rule a man brought an unexploded canon shell holding on his shoulder. This canon shell was fired from the warship in Arabian sea. During the war which lasted few hours, the splinters of these shells were flying all over our village. Fortunately nobody was hurt. This shell was then handed over to military camp near to our area.

Yes, it was good @msdivkar. Germany was heavily bombed by the allies in WW2 and not all bombs are found yet. They are still under the ground. So every time a building is planned to build, the ground is inspected for a probable bomb.
OMG! That was scary. Thank you.

That does surprise me that those bombs are still around. I guess I am naive.

No, you are not naive @LeaPea2417. Germany was heavily bombed by the allies in WW2 and I have read somewhere that there are still more than 5, 000 bombs sleeping under the German grounds.
