Being blocked on mylot...

It sucks when you read a discussion by someone and want to comment but then you realize you can't 'cause you've been blocked... I don't get it. When a person is blocked why is it that they can't comment on the discussions of the person that blocked them or on any comments on those discussions but they can still see posts by that person, "like" them, suggest them, and even report them? That just doesn't make sense to me.

If you want to find out whether a block is intentional or a mistake, the best way is to PM me and ask ne to contact the person. I will then report back on the result. Blocking was introduced strictly as an interim measure to be used when a person felt harassed or intimidated by someone and there are good reasons why it doesn't prevent all 'interactions' both ways. It was never intended to be used merely because one doesn't agree with what someone is posting. We are also aware of the design faults concerning the 'block' button's placement which make it rather easy to hit it by accident when visiting someone's profile. Unfortunately, it seems that correcting these shortcomings is rather too complex to warrant the time and expense and we have to live with them for the time being.

What's worse is that when someone blocks you, they can still sneak in and comment on your posts and even read them.

@lovebuglena One would think, but it happened to me today. Not a comment, but a like on my frittata post. Go figure.

Really? That is something I've been wondering. And it seems that if they block you you cannot block them.

But I'd think if someone doesn't want you to comment on their stuff, hence the block, they wouldn't want to comment on yours either.

The thing I think is most unfair is that someone who blocks you can still comment on your posts, but you cannot comment on their posts.

@lovebuglena There is a way, if you have a doubt, you log out and read the post without being logged in, you can read all the comments... if you see an offensive comment from someone who blocked you send a PM to Admin.

I did not know this. That is very unfair. And if they say bad things about you you can't know it because you can't see the darn comments. Unless someone else messages you and lets you know.

Well you cannot do anything about that since it’s the decision of the poster to not allow you to join in. I guess you just have to move on to other topics l guess.

It's weird seeing discussions by a person that blocks you knowing you can't join in the discussion. I wonder if the person that blocks you can see anything you post?

If someone wants to block you and does there is nothing you can really do about it. Also, sometimes people block others for reasons that make no sense or are not worth blocking someone over.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Yes, yet people still block you if they disagree with you...especially when it comes to politics.

Everytime I see someone make a post about being blocked, I check to make sure I didn't mistakenly block them . I haven't experienced it myself, but yah, I've heard that about being blocked.

@lovebuglena Ok, so forgive me that I just experimented on you for a moment. I pushed the block button and the block button became red . . . the other ones on top grayed out. There is no confirmation thing, but unblocking was just as easy. I think for me it happened when I tried to message someone on myLot from my phone . . . instead of message, I may have pushed the block button and didn't realize - and ultimately didn't message anyway so it was left that way. Did you get a block notification by any chance in the past minute?

@much2say Thanks for experimenting. Unfortunately, we do not get notified when we are blocked. When that person blocked me I had no idea they did. It was only after I read their discussion and wanted to comment but saw no comment option that I realized I might have been blocked. I also went to their profile and the message, block, and follow buttons did not exist.

I honestly don't understand how someone can accidentally block another person. To block someone you'd have to go to that person's profile and press the 'block' button. And if you do accidentally press the block button is there a notice to confirm that you actually wanna block someone?

@paigea Nope. I found out through a friend that it was not a mistake. But this got me thinking... if someone blocks you by accident and they don't realize they did it you can't even contact them about it to find out if they meant to block you or not. You can only ask someone to contact that person for you.

Sometimes the blocking is accidental, at least I think so. One person here who has always been friendly seems to have blocked me..we never had a disagreement or anything. Maybe she just thought I was weird..no clue, but she still comments on my stuff from time to time.

I don't understand that concept, myself. It is just what it is I guess. Probably the way the site is coded. Some sites hide posts from people who've been blocked, but not all can/do. Mylot is one of them.

@lovebuglena Yeah, I know. I've blocked and have been blocked by, other people on Facebook. The layout and the way Mylot is coded, posts aren't hidden. Just the respond option. I guess they want you to be able to report a possible spammer, or tag it.

From what some people are saying the people that block us can comment on our stuff and I don't get why that is. What if we don't want the people that blocked us to comment on our stuff? Seems we can't do anything about that. We cannot block those that blocked us.

@lovebuglena If someone blocks me, it's within their right to do so. I have no issue with that. But I should have the right to block them too. That's the bit that's unfair. Why can I only block people who haven't blocked me?
