Won't be celebrating Thanksgiving with my parents

Hubby told me he wanted to do Thanksgiving at our house and invite his parents and my parents and maybe his brother. When I told my mom about it she said they won't be coming because Dad doesn't wanna go to any gatherings right now. I was bummed but I understood.
Even though my parents won't be coming I thought hubby would still want to do Thanksgiving at our house, just with his parents only. He didn't want to do that and instead said that we are gonna go to his uncle's house for Thanksgiving.
From what I understood, his uncle ordered a Turkey, so it won't be home made. It better be good. Not that a home made turkey would have been better necessarily. And then his cousins will be making other stuff like butternut squash soup, corn bread, mac-n-cheese, Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, and a few salads. Hubby decided that he wants to bring something as well so we will be making candied yams, string beans, cranberry sauce, and gravy. And we will also bring sour pickles, sour cabbage, and pickled tomatoes. Not sure what's for dessert but I think that should be enough food for about 15 people.
Sad that I won't get to have Thanksgiving with my parents... Hopefully, I will get to do it next year.

It will be my husband, his parents, maybe his brother, and the rest are his aunts, uncle, and cousins with their families. No one from my side of the family.

@Cheyee I guess I never thought of it that way as we are not related by blood.

@lovebuglena even if they are from your husband's they are still your family. I don't think marriage it's just between you two. Sorry if you have different opinion

@lovebuglena No it is not crazy because the largest number of contamination came after family had large gathering and from those family members it spread in the stores, office spaces and so on.
This is what your Center of Disease and Control Prevention Suggest (taken by the official site)
Host your gathering outdoors, when possible. If this is not feasible, make sure the room or space is well-ventilated (for example, open a window).
Arrange tables and chairs to allow for social distancing. People from the same household can be in groups together and don’t need to be 6 feet apart – just 6 feet away from other families.
If planning activities for adults and/or kids, consider those where social distancing can be maintained, like sidewalk chalk art or frisbee.
When guests arrive, minimize gestures that promote close contact. For example, don’t shake hands, do elbow bumps, or give hugs. Instead wave and verbally greet them.
Encourage guests to bring their own food and drinks.

That is crazy. It should be up to the people themselves if they wanna invite anyone and how many people. The gov't shouldn't tell us how many people we can have over. I bet the gov't officials are not following their own rules. At least it seems that way here in the US.

I guess so. If he doesn't wanna do get togethers gotta respect that. My mom bought turkey today, so they are gonna make it for the two of them, which is good. And she wants to share it with hubby and I as it will be too much for them. Hopefully, hubby will not mind.

Better safe than sorry. I kinda wish that hubby still wanted to do Thanksgiving at our house with just his parents...

@lovebuglena I hope so. It will be handy to use the video calling option.

That's a shame you won't have Thanksgiving with your parents. It certainly sounds like there will be plenty of food.

Yeah. My dad has a mandatory covid test Friday and then an appointment with a cardiologist next week and doesn't wanna risk it.

Hopefully everything will be back to normal next year. Sounds like there will be a lot of food. I hope one turkey is enough for 15 people. Have a great time. I would chow down on the Brussels sprouts, corn bread and mashed potatoes.

I am assuming it will be a very big turkey... I am glad all the other stuff will be home made. Aside from the pickled stuff of course.
