So we don’t have a dishwasher. We wash the dishes the old way- with dishwashing detergent and sponge. My thirteen year old daughter is tasked to do the dishes twice a day. That’s every after lunch and dinner. But the problem is she always leaves the pans and pots behind. I told her she can’t do that, was even angry once or twice, but to no avail. She never washes the pots and pans. Period. Then I saw a friend’s FB post complaining about the same thing. Her 14 year old son leaves behind the pots and pans in the sink. Quite a conundrum! So who’s the best person to ask but my mom who has seven kids. She said out of the seven of us, three did the same thing, excluding me. (Chest puffing with pride lol) But what’s with teenagers not washing pots and pans? Have you experienced the same thing?

No washing, no dessert. I believe that we all must have some duties.

Omg - my daughter is 15 and she does the same thing!!!!! She will cook and do the dishes (only because I make her) . . . but then she will only put water in the pot to soak and then leave it there . I can understand leaving it there to soak, but then she goes away and conveniently forgets to come back to finish up the cleaning . UGH!!!

@sol_cee It's funny because when I did the dishes when I was a kid, I loved doing pots and pans. My mom had the copper bottom pans . . . and after cooking they'd be kinda tarnished. So she would put something like Ajax on the copper part which made it look shiny and very clean . . . and I was always fascinated by that magical clean. We don't have those now . . . maybe that's what we need .

I never liked washing the dishes and those pots... I remember it was our eldest sister's task back then.. But now, it's my mother who does it.
I love cooking.. And when I cook, I have to make sure that all the utensils that I used are clean after using them or else.... Hihihihi

I didn't have a dish washer growing up. I had to wash everything by hand. Even today, I tend to put off pots and pans. I still wash them, it's just I'll either put off for the next day or do it last. I find them quite cumbersome to have to move around.

@sol_cee I don't think kids fully understand why they do things, sometimes.

Nope never had any kids, I have no idea but it must be something against the teenagers maybe a protest of some kind, Give your daughter a Brillo pad and see what happens,

I quit using my dishwasher because my daughter refused to put the dishes away once they were done. She wanted to just use the clean dishes straight from the dishwasher without ever putting them away and stacked the dirty dishes on top of the dishwasher. *sigh* So I started washing them by hand and yelling at her to put the clean ones away before I would start washing the dirty ones. (I hate having dirty dishes sitting around, so wash them as soon as there are any in the sink.)
I think she regrets not putting the dishes away from the dishwasher now. I only ran it once every two days. Now I was dishes two or three times a day so she has to put them away much more often. (No, she doesn't wash dishes. I want to eat off clean ones, thank you!)

i'd ne'er such troubles with mine, though they jest washed dishes 3 times a week. they knew if'n all 'twas not done'n correctly, they'd get to dig holes fer imaginary fence posts. which they'd then get to refill'n pack :) these days, i'd take 'ways their gadgets...
