Update on my Cousin with COVID

Got an update on my cousin with COVID. She was in ICU for three weeks. Trying to get her oxygen levels stable. She has asthma. That has been an issue.
Finally got in a regular room about a week ago. And today, for the first time in four weeks, physical therapy came in and she took four steps. The she had to go back to bed. Could not do any more on her own. Still on oxygen.
Many are not taking this virus seriously. But it is still taking lives. And for the others recovering, especially with other issues, it is taking awhile to completely recover. Four weeks in the hospital is a long time.
Her husband is at home and has recovered. He had COVID and pneumonia weeks ago.
I hope everybody will stay safe when you go out.

Underlying conditions can make any illness difficult. Even something as the common cold. With this being said, it's great your cousin is recovering well despite it taking a while. Asthma itself can put a person in the hospital for days. So, it's not really a surprise that it's making recovery difficult. However, it's a huge improvement to be in a normal room.

@crazyhorseladycx So sorry about your friend's loss. 45 is too early. I would be afraid as well if I had family. I hope everyone will stay safe.

I'm so glad that she's out of ICU and finally recovering from this hideous virus. Asthma is bad news, when Covid attacks a person's lungs! If this virus isn't taken seriously, many more will end up dying

Sadly, lots of people will never learn. I heard in the news that doctors and nurses are amazed as patients who are dying of the virus are still in denial, that they do not have COVID and that is not the reason why they are sick. What gets to me is their blatant disregard of the guidelines from the health experts that are putting others at risk.

Glad she is starting to get better. It can take a very long time for some to get well.

It is really taking a toll on your cousin. Hope she recovers without side effects soon.
The virus is indeed tough for all.
If one has comorbidities, this virus is indeed dangerous.
We are playing hide and seek with the virus as we have to move out outside too for essentials.
Hope the precautions we take will be sufficient.

Hoping she recovers soon. I am glad l survive it too. Glad l had no lung problems before and don’t have serious health risks at the time. But still l was confined for 2 weeks to recover my strength back to normal. I also had pneumonia too.

@CarolDM Indeed it was a tough one. I am glad that when l got it there were medical intervention available already to help my body to cope with the onslaught. I got plasma transfusion and remdesevir and dexamethasone treatment that hastened my bidy to fight iff the infection. My doctor said had l got it early March or April they were still clueless how to treat people like me.

That is so hard that she had asthma. That is great that she is in a regular room. That is great that she took 4 steps. I am sure it wore her out. Having asthma does not help her. It probably will take her a while to recover, but, at least she is in a regular room now. I try my best.

Slowly but surely is a phrase I had encountered last night from a YouTube friend. And it's what happening to your cousin. Hope she'll recover soon.
