A gift which cost us nothing

Tomorrow we have a three-hour trip to my sister’s place. We will be celebrating Christmas with some of her children, spouses and grandchildren.
She lives with her son and his partner on a five-acre property but has her own house which is very lovely and exactly right for her. We bought her a giant cup and saucer as a gift. It is meant to be a plant pot.
We also want to give our nephew a gift. Mostly we exchange ‘token’ gifts – a tin of biscuits or perhaps chocolates. However, this time we have done some work on a set of pegs that were just sitting in the shed. The pegs are actually old railway 'dogs' which are used to hold the rails to the sleepers. We took the pegs out and painted them, then sanded and varnished the board before replacing the pegs. I hope he likes them.

We've never been into huge presents. The first year my son was married Christmas nearly broke them as they were expected to buy big present for everyone. It's just ridiculous. Thankfully they draw names and just buy for one person now. And welcome back. Lovely to see your name again. I hope everything is well with you.

It looks good. I would use it for a coat rack.

@JudyEv aw, yer welcome! so glad all went well 'n y'all got to spend the time with family. i knew such'd be most welcome :) ours'll be quiet, no family get togethers 's we're still'n the 'red level'. our case #'s 're finally goin' down, but hospitalizations remain quite ugly.
that bein' said, i've great hopes that folks realize the true meanin' 'f the holiday. might e'en try to figure out a way to get a video chat with the young'uns. 'll need to cabbage 'nto the hubs puter coz 't seems that windows 7 doesn't support such antics.

@crazyhorseladycx It would be a real buzz to have a video chat. I hope you're able to organise it.
