A bird flew into our window

I was sitting at my desk this afternoon with the curtains closed when something thudded really hard against the window. I looked out to see a little bird on the cement verandah. He’d been knocked senseless. I yelled at Vince to grab his camera then went out to see what I could do for the poor little thing.
To cut a long story short, he came to after some minutes and we sat him on the brick in the birdbath. We were about to move him somewhere else as there were a lot of bees near the bath but before we could do that he flew off.
We were able to get a nice clear photo of it and, from our bird book, we found out it is a white-naped honeyeater. Its fancy name is Melithreptus lunatus and they are from 13 to 15 cm long. It is a passerine or perching bird. It is quite a pretty little bird, don’t you think?

That is a pretty bird and I'm glad that he didn't knock himself senseless. I had a bird fly into the glass doors in my kitchen and it scared me when I heard the thud.

Glad her is OK. I have separate panes on my doors and windows so it cuts down alot on that type of thing.

When I looked at the window from outside, the garden was reflected in it so I guess the poor thing thought he was heading into some bushes.

Several years ago I had the weirdest experience. Birds kept flying into our bedroom window. They didn't just fly and hit the window once. They kept flying into the window repeatedly. I was so confused. It went on for several minutes. Finally they stopped. That has never happened again. But if you ask me to explain why it did happen? I'd say "It was a Twilight Zone moment and for a brief period of time, we were caught in that Alfred Hitchcock movie 'The Birds'." It's the best explanation I could come up with.

He's lovely! I'm glad he didn't break his little birdy neck! I had a similar experience at my friend Michael's house. The cats looked on as I "rescued" him and carried him around on my finger. After about 15 minutes, he flew off.

It is pretty! Great photo.
Your post reminded me of the time a sparrow somehow got into our house. It panicked and crashed into the wall a couple of times. Then it sat still, dazed, for a couple of minutes, to recover. I was relieved when it finally flew out.
