2020 is almost over. 2021 is on our doorstep. People say they can't wait for 2020 to end as if everything will be magically fixed as soon as we step in 2021. But anyways, let's take a look at some of the biggest events that shaped the year and will be remembered for a long time. January 3: Iranian general Qasem Soleimani is killed by a U.S. drone after his landing at the national airport of Iraq. This controversial event almost triggered a war between the two countries January 14: Australia bush fires happened, in which more than 18 million hectares of forest was burnt and destroyed. 34 people died also. January 31: Great Britain finally leaves the EU. March: COVID-19 is officially declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization. Although its first cases were identified in December 2019 in China, by the end of January and February, it took a big swing and had spread globally. April: North Korean dictator and head of state Kim Jong Un, mysteriously disappeared from public eyes for 3 weeks, leading to rumors of his demise. July 10: Turkey turns iconic museum, formerly a church, Hagia Sophia into a mosque. August 4: The disastrous explosion happens in Lebanon's capital city, Beirut, in which a storehouse of ammonium nitrate exploded with a force of about 1/10th of the Hiroshima bombing. August 11: Russia becomes the first country to approve a COVID vaccine, skipping normal test protocols. October 16: People in France are beheaded by terrorists because of mocking cartoons of Prophet Muhammad. December 14: Joe Biden is elected President of the United States by the Electoral college. *These were the events that came of the top of my head, so if I forgot any event that has maybe left an impression to you, feel free to add a comment and fill with my post.

Yes from what I remember, they campaigned to leave in December, but it actually was January 31st when they ratified the withdrawal agreement and officially left the EU.

@mrki444 Yes they have made their withdrawal decision clear since December, but on official papers and legal matters, they had not done it until January.

What will 2021 bring? We don't know. Coronavirus isn't over yet, there's a new strain, and it's going to take a long time to get people vaccinated. (Those why want to be. I'm not).

@eshtreef I hope it doesn't take long for us to get back to normal but I'm guessing it won't be before July or round that time!

@sharonelton May God hear your words. It would suck to waste another boring, quarantine summer.

Yeah the pandemic is still not over whether people accept it or not. Worst case scenario 2021 will be just another number to this cycle of disastrous events that shaped our world in the past years.

The good and the bad we've had for 2020 had somehow impart us lessons in life. Gratefull that we survived and lucky to be still alive and hoping for a brighter year ahead.

I agree. I think we all learned from this year to value and rejoice in the small things more than before because we never know what fate brings, life can change 360 degrees in just 1 minute.

Exactly, hopefully 2021 will be as exciting as 2020 but with positive events of course!
