Weird Word Wednesday- Flout

I had heard the word 'flout' a few times during my adult life, but I wasn't sure what it meant, exactly. I knew it in the context of a person who flouts the rules. I suspected that it meant to ignore or break them. I was correct.
I can understand why some folks confuse flaunt and flout.
Also, it seems that one flaunts their rebellion when they flout the regulations or societal norms.
A timely example of this is when people enter a business without a face mask, even though their city has an ordinance and there is a sign posted on the entrance that masks are required.
I've never used the word flout. Have you? And have you flouted any guidelines or laws lately?

Good point @RasmaSandra! I recently flouted the guidelines in a work situation. I wasn't being rebellious, I had missed the memo! I didn't even realize it until a couple months later.
