In the end, Indonesia could not produce tempeh and tofu because soybean prices soared. And we don't know why, soybeans are imports from China.

It looks as though there has been a low harvest due to La Nina (a complementary Pacific weather pattern to El Nino), according to this article:

On the other hand, this article lists the various factors which affect the price of soy beans. If your country imports from China, then the price rise is probably due to the fact that China doesn't have enough for its own needs.

@May2k8 It's certainly hitting Japanese tofu makers!
A historic rise in soybean prices driven by soaring demand in China is dealing a heavy blow to Japanese makers of traditional staples such as tofu and soy

@owlwings It's really interesting, it's possible here production size for tempeh and tofu will become half.

We find out for that, if this is allowed to continue to rise then people will look for other food alternatives.

@LowRiderX The government also has a role to play in stabilizing prices, but every country has its own way.

Of course it is more expensive, the production was low in China due to Covid-19 and swine fever.

There could be few possible reasons... A bad produce, more demand than supply etc.

That's right, only the problem is that if the price is increased there will be fewer buyers ... so it's possible that the size will be made smaller so that the price same.

We also import ourselves but that can only be used for 20% of the population here, that's why we still need the biggest suppliers from other countries as well, especially from China.

Now the soybean price is back to normal. It seems that the tactics of tempe and tofu craftsmen to stop their production have succeeded in forcing the government to step in to stabilize prices. And they can now reproduce without increasing prices.
