My new project

I wear fingerless gloves a lot - I have always suffered from cold hands. I have several pairs on the go at once; one pair for going out, one for wearing in the garden and one with my bicycle so that when I rush out somewhere and then find it is colder to the hands than I realised, I have them available.
I even have one pair that I wear indoors when I’m sitting typing, or reading in bed. Currently my ‘indoor gloves’ are an odd pair, since I wore out the right hand glove of one pair and the left hand glove of another, so my right is fawn while my left is striped brown, green and red.
I decided it was time for some new ones and although I could just buy a pair I thought I would treat myself. I already have a knitting pattern because I have previously knitted rainbow-striped ones with button-over mitts for both the girls, and the same pattern also does adult sizes.
So I bought this lovely yarn and I’ve just started. I’m no good at doing nothing so now I can work on these whenever I’m waiting for something or watching a video with the girls.

Good luck on your new project. Knitting is one skill I haven't learned so far. I know how to sew, cross stitch and crochet but not knitting. I hope I would be given time to learn this too.

I used to knit as a teenager, then I went though a long period when I hardly knitted anything - I had enough hats, gloves, scarves and jumpers and none of them wore out! I only started again making things for the girls, and also teaching them to knit and making little things together, like little stockings for the Christmas tree and little cakes and sandwiches to play with.

I wonder if yarns have plain colors like blue, yellow, green. You have a unique yarn.

My mother was great at knitting woollen socks. I remember that once she had to finish a pair because she wanted to give them away as a present but she also wanted to watch a film at the cinema. So she took the half-finished sock with her and went on knitting in the semi-darkness while watching the film.

@Fleura There was a time - I seem to remember in the 1970s/1980s - when nearly everybody knitted. People who went by train or people sitting in restaurants and cafes, pupils in the classroom during lessons - girls *and* boys! - they all knitted. Teachers knitted during meetings in the staff room. The headmaster wasn't too pleased about this but didn't dare forbid it. He said that he knew from his wife that knitting and listening at the same time was possible for women. :-)
I told my pupils that I could forbid it but wouldn't mind if they were good at English as it is possible to listen attentively and knit at the same time (see above). But the ones who were bad at English had to listen to me and concentrate on the lesson.

@MALUSE Gosh I don't remember it being as widespread as that here. I did knit in school but only during breaks, and I was the only one, although my friend also knitted but only at home.
I'm not sure what teachers would say (then or now) if the pupils all started knitting.

@JudyEv No, only two needles, it's quite easy (that's why I have used this pattern so much!) It's a bit difficult to describe, but starting from the wrist you knit up towards the fingers, then work on only the central part to make the thumb, then cast off that, rejoin the yarn, knit a bit more of the hand and then work on the central part to make the first finger, then the second etc. They are all flat pieces and you just stitch up the side of each at the end. You can see the work in progress here. And this is the pattern I'm using

Nice colors. One day I'm gonna learn to knit although I may have to wait for another incarnation.

@Fleura If I ever decide to take on learning it I will certainly check out how to's.
My grandmother tried to teach me when I was little and mom tried to teach me to sew.
I was a miserable student.

Very ambitious, I am a multi-tasker as well.
