Australians and Americans

During this pandemic, my husband and I watched more television than usual, snd for some reason, quite a few of the series we watched were set in Australia. As a result we feel like we know the Australian people a little better--at least the Australian television version of the Australians.
After watching several of these series, I told my husband that the Australians seemed more like Americans than just about any other culture I'd observed. The settlement of both of our countries had some similarities. Many of the early settlers were rejects from other countries--criminals and misfits and such.
So I decided if you take a bunch of criminals and misfits and throw them out in middle of a wilderness this is what you get. Not all bad, I'd say.
I know right now Australians might not be too pleased to be compared to Americans, but we've had better days. And things are looking up.

I think people are pretty much the same no matter where you live.

It's interesting to hear you say this. Personally, I think we're a bit more like the Canadians in that we didn't rebel against the 'Mother country' but are on relatively good terms with her. But in some ways we do have many similarities.
