Mussels everyone?

I heard a commotion outside and I thought my neighbors were fighting or something. Lolll Turned out some people were gathered around the mussel vendor haggling over the price. The mussels were freshly caught (or harvested? I don’t know the term) and they just looked so inviting. I bought half a kilo for 50 pesos. No idea if it’s overpriced or not but I’m thinking grilled mussels for dinner. I haven’t tried it though. Gonna check YouTube for some videos. How about you? Do you have any mussel recipes?

I can't eat seafood. I've been in the hospital twice when I did eat some. *sigh* I would love to eat some. (I love them battered and deep-fried.) You are so lucky! Mussels are harvested, if you don't mind me telling you the correct term.

Why can’t you eat seafood? Allergic? Harvested, got it. Thanks!

We like mussels but not the big green ones, the small French mussels "Buchot" or "Buzigues". For the small ones, we open the mussels in a pan with a little olive oil, garlic and pepper, we add chopped parsley and serve. They are also good with a garlic butter. We bake the large mussels "au gratin", we open them raw, we fill with chopped parsley, bread crumbs, Parmesan, olive oil and put in a hot oven.

@sol_cee The taste is different, those cultured are often cultured in freshwater they are tasteless.

@sol_cee I know that non cultured mussels are covered with sea debris that you have to scrape from the shell when you buy them.

@sol_cee Boil the mussels with a little salt for about 10 minutes then peel them, then you can just fry them in hot oil, and for chilies they usually go first into the hot oil after pounding.

I like mussels though I've had them only in my adult life. My parents didn't care for them, so my mom never cooked them. I haven't made them either . I like the kind where they make it kinda creamy - it's often at buffets - I don't know what they do to them!
