Use Smiley Not to Offend Others

We inevitably contradict others' opinions over something. It is because we have the freedom to convey our own beliefs and thoughts about a particular topic or topics. It is not healthy to agree if not agreeable from within. Moreover, I usually use a smiley emoticon not to offend anyone here, despite contradicting them. Are you an onion skin when being contradicted? Image Credit: media.tenor.com

I'm open-minded when it comes to others' opinions. I also usually do that by putting a smiley emoticon just letting them know that do not take it seriously, calm down and everything is alright.

This is the least I can do when it comes to contradicting others' thoughts about something. I am not an onion skin if they do this to me.

@Shavkat What do you do when someone does not want to lose in an argument?

@rheicel I will block him or her. I was just kidding. The best way to handle it is to ignore him or her and move on. I do want to be stressed out.

I can understand different opinions, but I can't understand lack of respect.

That's another story. I hope they will still respect our opinions despite not agreeing to them.

What matters is that words are not from smiles.

It can be possible. We can professionally relay our messages. I am sure there will be no double meaning for them.

Not sure what onion skin means, but this forum is all about discussion. So there would be people who have different opinion than us.

Onion skin refers to being so sensitive. I do agree that we have diverse opinions over something. I respect that, but some are so defensive.

Often times I am misinterpreted by my colleagues when I post reminders on our GC. They thought that I am always angry. They said I should use emoticons to show my feeling.

I guess you need to accept their suggestion to be not misinterpreted. Are you going to?

Nope! I have a thick skin. If someone wants to be ignorant and dismiss what I say, then let them go to hell in their own way. It won't affect me at all. I don't mind if someone has a different opinion from mine. Just because they do doesn't mean their way of looking at something is less valid than mine... it just means they see things from their own perspective.

I agree. It will not make us less if someone does not agree with our opinions. Of course, it is not cool to be controlled just to fit in.

No point in lying to oneself. Say it but politely and yes with a pleasing emoticon

We can do the right wordings not to hurt others' feelings. Emoticons can do the trick, too. Sugar-coating one's statements is a sign of cheating oneself.

The emoticons are very useful as we can't see facial expressions, tone of voice or body language. I often put a smiley face too.

I always believed that text messaging can ruin a relationship using a mobile phone. It goes to commenting here, too. So it is best to use some emoticons.

At times I am not sure about what the smiley emoticons convey and could be misconstrued.

@Shavkat i had someone that worked for me, he stormed out of a meeting. We made all the decisions while he was pouting. He apologized later, but was frustrated because we did the project the way the team wanted not the way he wanted.

Communication can be trickier without body language. It is something that we really take for granted, even with computers having been a part of life for so long. That is a very good idea to use emojis when intent and tone may not be so clear. This reminds me of a funny episode of Bob's Burgers where Bob goes to a cooking convention and finds out that everyone dislikes him because he had offended them so much with crude remarks that he had intended as jokes. He thought that he was being playful, but nobody else interpreted it that way. He had thought for a long time that all those people were his friends, but they weren't all because of miscommunication.
