Disclaimer:
If you plan to be in a serious mood today, you may as well as skip it.
Yet come back tomorrow or day after!
Being serious about life- something our parents sometimes used to tell us, and at times our teachers as well.
Being serious at work, or school or college.
But yes, is having seriousness everything.
Can't we live and act in a different way even if it is labeled as stupidity.
I say this because I had a few colleagues in college as well as at work who did not take some light fun well.
One of them always said "Ye Kya Mazaak Hai?" (Oh, what kind of a fun it is?) and in a serious talk.
It is not as if I am not serious about things in life. In fact till age of 30+ as well I was much more on the serious side. Yet later I realized that there is more to life.
Having some fun can in fact help us wade the tricky waters of seriousness !!
So what is your take?

There is time for everything. You can't mix up the two. If your friend didn't like the joke may be he had some serious matter running in his head. There may hardly be any person who is serious all the time or in joking mood all the time. So JJ may be right it is 50-50.

Frankly that person who did not liked my light talk used to pull others' leg a lot. And in everything he used to push away light talk- even by others and even in not so serious situation.
But if somebody told him or asked him why he treated other people in a certain way, he used to start minding a lot and used to spread half truths.
Anyways I now try to have light moments with people who enjoy, not with others.
Experience teaches a lot!

At times we cannot avoid them. So we have to be tactful.

Like everything, I believe fun has its time and place. We need to have fun to remind ourselves we're still human and decompress from otherwise stressful endeveors. I feel life is what you decide to make it.

In some cases, companies are facing certain challenges.
In other cases, it is more the margin of profit bit that makes them behave in a certain way.

If you cannot enjoy your life, why bother living? I always tell people that if my job isn't fun, then I need a new job.

Frankly jobs are rarely fun (it's my own experience). Yet the way we interact with colleagues- that we can manage.

If done carefully, light fun can be helpful even in sales.
But one has to do it person by person.

Nice discussion. Well, balance is the key and striving each day to strike a balance is what we call life. There is a dialogue- " Life ko itna seriously mat le, yaha se koi zinda nahi jaata".You understand Hindi and so I am not translating it to loose it's essence

Yes you are right. Too much seriousness is not going to help.
By the way which movie had that dialog?

There is always this phrase 'Don't take it seriously' used when it comes to certain of our contacts as they can never take a joke.

Sometimes the ability to laugh at one's own follies is a big one and not everyone has it.
But then each person is not the same.

Yes I find most of your discussions in a lighter vein and some fun. Even serious ones are normally not so serious.
