No Clam Chowder For Me

I wasn't planning on going to the regular grocery store today. They don't have any bargains and I didn't need much anyway. But at the request of the wife I was going to make New England clam chowder tomorrow for dinner. We went to Ruler Foods. Lo and behold, they did not have any clams. The bastiges. They had oysters. They had sardines. But no clams. So, instead I will make a chowder with shrimp in it. I did check with the wife to make sure she was okay with that, and she says she likes it when I make other chowders too. So she is fine if it is not the clam chowder we originally wanted. It is still a bit disappointing though. Oh well.

Yeah. I guess it will be similar to a seafood chowder I have made before. Although for a full on seafood chowder I use fish, lobster, crab (imitation), and shrimp.

@Tina30219 I am glad not to be allergic to it. It just tastes so damn good.

That is a shame they didn't have any clams for your chowder. Glad your wife likes when you cook. I love it when Mike cooks for us. I think he is a better cook than I am. Enjoy your chowder.

I hope my wife likes it when I cook. She doesn't cook at all.

I like shrimp. I don't necessarily like the price. But hey, sometimes you just gotta have some shrimp.

It will probably be similar to a seafood chowder I have made in the past with fish, lobster, imitation crab, and shrimp. I guess the only thing that makes a clam chowder a clam chowder is it's a chowder with clams in it.

Oh man. It's one of my favorite soups, and usually the one I pick if soup is offered at a restaurant with a meal.

@CarolDM I have never been a huge fan of potato soup. But a homemade French onion? Yup. And come to mention it... A homemade hearty cream of chicken soup? Oh man. I have some work to do.

It is helpful that my wife is not at all a picky eater. If she was that would drive me insane, honestly.

It is always good to have a backup plan when it comes to most things, especially when you have the kind of luck that I do. lol

@thelme55 In U.S. supermarkets canned clams are quite ubiquitous.

I always use canned when it comes to a chowder. They are usually pretty easy to find.
