This book is classed as a Children`s book but I thought it looked like an interesting story so I decided to read it. I have owned this book for years after I got it free with some newspaper vouchers that I had saved up. It is a quaint little story about three girls who are growing up as sisters even though they are not related to each other or to their guardian and the people who look after them. Their guardian was a fossil collector who found these three little girls while he was on his travels looking for fossils to add to his collection. They all lived in a big house in London along with some members of staff serving at their house. When the collector went on a long voyage to search for more fossils , the girls were left in the care of the household staff who were left money for the girl`s care and household expenses while he was away. Then when he did not come back, the money was starting to run out. This meant that the whole household had to find ways to make money. They decide to take in lodgers because the house was a very large one and they had rooms to spare. One of the lodgers was a dancer and she introduced the girls to dancing and performing as a way of making money. So when each girl reached the age of 12 she was allowed to perform on the stage and earn money to help with the household expenses. The girls loved this because they wanted to make their name famous. Their surname was `Fossil' because they were found by a man who collected fossils and nobody knew what any of the girls were really called.

@YesWay You should be able to find a copy of it in the library. Sometimes older stories are better than modern ones.

It is a nice story and an old one too. It was first written in the 1930s.

My sister used to learn ballet as a child, she loved it, she used to dance and practice in front of the mirror, she showed me the steps, and I thought about it as a way of a self defense, lol, I went to Karate lessons then. So, I tried to think how ballet dance steps could be used as an attacks :-) years later, when my sister was about 21, she tried ballet lessons again, but, she lost interest fast and got out of it.

I know that lots of little girls try ballet lessons, but only a handful of them do it when they are older. I used to go to ballroom dancing lessons , but I do not remember any of the steps now

Do you read with your niece ? It is nice when adults and children share books because they can discuss it together.
