MyLot's resident wino reveals his favorite Pinot Grigio

I hadn't heard of Pinot Grigio until a few years ago. As a younger man, I drank mostly Ch*rdonnays, and occasionally something sweeter like Johannesburg Reislings. Somewhere along the way, I switched to reds, and drank a lot of Merlots and Cabs. But recently, I've fallen in love with Pinot Grigio. It is a white wine that tends to be dry, tart, and crisp, with a hint of what feels like very tiny bubbles. I have tried several brands now, including Two Buck Chuck (Trader Joe's), Sutter Home, Gallo (yes, Gallo--so shoot me), and Barefoot. I'd have to say that the run-away winner among those I've tried is Barefoot. It has the attributes I describe above in spades, and is not too sweet. It is also the most expensive, at about $5.50 for a regular bottle (not bad). Two Buck Chuck and and Sutter Home tie for second. And Gallo finishes last, with a tad too much sweetness for a Pinot Grigio. Have you ever had Pinot Grigio? Do you have a favorite wine?

Yes, I regularly buy the Pinot Grigio the best comes from the Veneto region in Italy. Most good ones are not cheap, but we only live once.

@TheHorse It's good, very, very good. I remember that we emptied a bottle during a lunch at noon with my mother.

We both like this. Mostly I drink dry whites and Vince has reds.

I drink it sometimes. I tend to prefer reds though.

@thehorse There's little that can better a dry, stone cold chilled Pinot if what your after is a white. Right now I'm drinking a 2014 Chateay Qanafar from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon and it is so very deeply satisfying.

Yes I like Pinot Grigio, it's crisp and refreshing. Generally I prefer red, but I did enjoy a very nice Chablis recently.
